WOOHOO! Promo Wank!
I own a community -- I hesitate to say "moderate" (although that's gonna change) because I'll admit I haven't; both I and the other moderator have been busy and haven't paid much attention to this particular community. It started getting busy around the time when neither of us had the time (or energy) to devote to it, and it was just a promotion community so we decided to let it ride. Only recently did some changes in the community setup on LJ make it easier to maintain a community; it's just piled into so much work by then I kept putting it off. I've had a feeling that there's been wank either coming or lurking about there...

Today, the wank came to me. And it's got Harry Potter flavoring!

Shutterfly16 promotes a HP RPG for the fourth time this week. Promos should only be posted once a week when they're new -- and once a month thereafter.

Wolf Samurai has had enough of that nonsense, and tells her nicely to not post the same ad repeatedly.

And the fun begins as Tainted Smile (who's not even a member of the comm) comes in and tells Wolf Samurai what basically amounts to "If you don't like it, don't read it" (in other words, take the community off your friendlist.) A valid argument -- if the poster wasn't in violation of the rules.

J Chaos tells Tainted the same thing, still politely, and watch as Tainted Smile spazzes out!

Wolf Samurai and J Chaos both inform Tainted that s/he's getting reported to the moderator for trolling.

That's when the real fun begins.

My personal favorite? Wolf Samurai tells Tainted Smile "someone should remove your reproductive organs so you can't breed. But alas, we can't always have what we want."

Tainted Smile replies with the ever-witty "Wow. That was so insulting, that I think I'm going to go cry to the moderator of this community that her members no longer want me to breed."

::coughs:: ^_^ See, I'm also one of the co-mods for ChildFree.

Anyhow, enjoy it while it lasts. ^_^

Please please PLEASE give BOTH TaintedSmile and Shutterfly16 good, hard spankings. And not the good type, either.

Tainted Smile's gone from the sandbox. I'm giving Shutterfly just a wee bit more leeway, because, granted, I should have caught this and called her on it myself, and *I* haven't been doing my job. Now that she knows - I told her she cannot advertise that RP again until after Halloween.

Four times in a week? That's as many times as newbies are allowed in a month. I think that's fair.

MORE than fair; that's being liberal.

And the HP-specific group sees plenty of spammage every now and then...

Lots of people have the communities not only friended, but on their "favourites" lists on their computers.

If they miss a day, there's still a way to catch up.

At least Tainted Smile's been punted out.

I realized later on that she wasn't even the one who posted that many times, unless she posted from sockpuppets. But the same RPG was posted multiple times -- but the next previous post 2 days earlier was made by someone else.

-_- So I just bitched at everyone to communicate better about who's posting what, and limited ALL posts to just one month per game.

Personally, I think it's best for all if the mods themselves promote their communities - in my view, it's a part of their job as mods to advertise their groups. (I just noticed two postings for this group in the HP RPG search in a three-day time span. Talk about le spammage.)

As for those of us who are minions, that's what our personal journals are for, and there's no rules on how many times a person can advertise something in their own LJ.

At least things are being brought back into order now.

Sometimes feeding a troll is just a good way to amuse yourself. And other people apparently. ^_^

Aah, that's a familiar name. Don't think she's actually on my list, but we've got some mutual friends and such. :)

Anyone else think it's ironic that four-plugs-a-week is complaining about spam? :p
