Either the writing quality is poor, or the "characters" are uninteresting, or the storyline is completely retarded. "An AU where all the boyband members hang out at Skateland in junior high and everyone is gay!"

I considered for a couple of nanoseconds rec'ing my own stuff at the thread, but the ficbitch has a point. Yeah, you could substitute "Bob" and "Steve" for "Viggo" and "Karl" without losing that much. And I don't care. That's the way I want it.

Actually, what I want is a new kind of RPS: "movies we want to see." The actors play parts in the fics so it can be as AU as you like. Then when you're reading you constantly have to go "omg, he is so not that kind of person!" Perfectly nice actors will do all sorts of vile stuff on film... and real screenwriters don't violate their soul or anything by writing about it.

But then again I don't care about fics that try to have ultra-realistic characterizations or snapshots of actors' daily lives. When I bother reading, I go right for the NC-17 fics. All I really want teh pretteh starring in some good porn.

I can understand that. It's the people who are SO CONVINCED that teh pretteh is really doing other boys (despite all contrary evidence, and usually a specific other boi) that they will get rabidly mad about it that I don't get.

I mean, I think that Diego and Gael probably are doing each other, but I can see it either way. I am an Amurrican who is prone to read Way Too Much into physical affection and closeness between guys who are not from my culture, after all.

I've got to read the recs.

And someone revived the "OMG would you show it to the person you were writing about?" Well, um, no, I would not, but I doubt someone writing non-sexual humor fic would show him that.

Or long threads arguing about one musician I like's religion, whether or not he uses coke, whether or not he's a misogynist, etc.

The less evidence my fandoms have that their fans are crazy, the happier I am.
