Furry Wankitude
I've been meaning to point this out (and I'm actually surprised it hasn't already been mentioned here):

The LJ community [info]som_pos is a community for the popular webcomic Something Positive. The discussions are sometimes low-key, sometimes crazy, and sometimes, well, who knows. But one member posted a photomanip of Wil Wheaton of "Star Trek: TNG" fame in a bad furry cosplay situation (let it be known that it the first time I've ever typed that sentence), and it led to a kind of fun discussion.

Then, further down the list, the wank happened. Watch what happens when on person defends furrydom's right to exist, while another argues against the alternate lifestyle. Tragedy ensues.

Whoever the fucktard is who started this crap with this community needs to die. Either that, or you all need to stop being ignorant.

WAY TO ARGUE YOUR POINT THERE. *splurt*

I gotta admit, it tends to be a sensitive topic for furries. This is because in most circles, if you let it slip you're furry, you get people recoiling and going "ICK PERVERT!" ... without even checking to see if you're a pervert in the first place.

It makes for some spectacular wank.

I'd also like to note that [info]bluewingedcat seems to be a fairly regular wanker. I've seen her before.

Yeah, but it's not as if anime, videogame, and computer fandom don't have their fair share of perverts and crazies as well.

Furry perverts just have wacky costumes and skin-crawling articles in Vanity Fair Online(?), so they're more 'well-known', as it were...

Considering that I write RPS (after many years of writing unpublished (unpublishable? :)) original fiction), I have no room to call you a pervert.

To mangle Firesign Theatre, 'we're all perverts on this bus.'

Yeah, hilarity too. The tragedy lies in the sheer number of brain cells that're sacrificed just to experience this kind of thing. And said brain cells coulda been put to better use! Like making chocolate-chip fortune cookies! Or navel gazing! Or something.

Am I reading this right? Is bluewingedcat is saying that furries are normal, not like those fursuiters and "freaks" that are into plushies?

You would think someone that was into cartoons in that way (or associated with or was tolerant of people who were into that) would have some sympathy to spare for the plushies and the fursuiters.

Yeeees, you would think. You'd think that people into any fandom or hobby X could apply the same basic logic to fandom or hobby Y, but no. No, this is hardly ever the case.

Woo, look folks! Liking bugs bunny more than he-man is an extreme! Watch out kids! Better not watch looney toons anymore! Because looney toons are "messed up"!

The true nature of "furry" is a preference in art styles. Last *I* checked, prefering one art style over another was in no way shape or form extreme. It is a preference. As extreme as prefering blue over red. There is nothing messed up about a simple artistic preference.

What is it about this statement that makes me snerk?

you know, i will never understand why people are so insistent on desexualising their sexual hobbies. I mean, I don't wander around saying, "oh, i like to be tied up and spanked but it's NOT ABOUT SEX! THOSE PEOPLE ARE GROSS!"

you're freaks. you're all freaks whether you fuck teddy bears or not, so embrace each other's freakiness, dammit, because I promise you society gives you no points for being "just" a furry, not a plushie. YOU ARE ALL FREAKS. and i say this as a big queer dork freakazoid myself.

and anti-furries are just a collection of sad abused nerds who have nobody else lower than them in the hierarchy except furries. anybody who brings out the bestiality 'argument' around me gets their FACE KICKED IN, and i'm not even a goddamn furry.

ahem. sorry. i've just spent too much time at somethingawful lately.

The real question is: Has anyone sent this link to Wil Wheaton? His take on it would probably be pretty funny (I like his writing), but it might be too creepy to see a manip of yourself tarted up like a furry.
