Heads up, potential wankery ahoy
lower_tadfieldlower_tadfield is an LJ community dedicated to fannish musings about Good Omens, a joint collaboration between Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman; some great stuff gets posted there, some not great stuff gets posted there, but overall it's a nice and friendly place where nice and friendly people get together and act like geeky fen.

Now, somebody obviously didn't read the community's user info page. I'd normally consign this post to the wastebins of obvious trollery, except--the girl tries to slam lower_tadfieldlower_tadfield for being a fannish community, when it clearly states in the user info that fan works of all sorts are welcome.

From her post: "Turns out it's [lower_tadfield's] nothing but a bunch of wanna-be writers and anime artists blackening further my faith in those interested in science fiction/fantasy. Have some respect for the authors' intentions, please."

Zounds, a hit, a very palpable hit! I'm quivering in my Timberlands, darlin'.

Ooh, and don't forget to notice her crying woe, woe for the poor authors' compromised and bastardized artistic visions! Sounds like Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett need some good old Defenders of the Faith protectors of their textual virginity artistic integrity.

Not much yet besides people replying with variations of "bitch, please," but ooh, I can't wait to see what happens if/when the OP starts responding to the comments in the thread. (And Anne Rice, are you paying attention? In...three lines, this girl has wanked mightily and wanked fiercely. It's tight, it's neat, it's wankalicious. Economy of expression, Ms. Rice, economy of expression. *blows kisses*)

Okay, the joining-a-community-without-reading-the-info thing is of teh stupid. And, uh, would that "RESPECT TEH AUTHORS OMG!!!1"-- would this be in reference to Terry Pratchett, who's parodied-by-close-copying most f/sf out there, and Neil Gaiman, who is currently working on a Narnia fanfiction-- that he wants to publish, but fanfic nonetheless?

Dude. Like. Dude. WHAT AN ASS. >:0

I've heard a few people mention this Narnia fanfic thing - if you're not all having a huge joke, you've made my day, and is there ANY information on it ANYWHERE? Please?

*snerk* I wish she'd respond to some of that. Nothing is more amusing in the fanfic community than when some horrified n00b comes in screeching "YOU'RE VIOLATING THE SANCTITY OF THE AUTHOR'S WORK!!!!" or, more acurrately, "U GUYZ R GROSS!!!"

Ahhh fanfic, let me count the ways....

I just thought I'd weigh in with the textual virginity.

And considering Gaiman is aware of RPS about him and wrote Gollum/Smeagol fic as a joke, I think he would probably be okay with people writing/drawing Good Omens stuff.

That's what it was! For the life of me, I couldn't remember the subject of your icon at all last night, even though I immediately thought of the textual virginity while writing up my post. Your icon gets an a-okay! from me.

He also edited a book of what is essentially Sandman fanfic. Good fanfic, written by professional authors, but very much fanfic.

Of course, the best bit is her comment two entries earlier, which, bad luck, was an R-rated fic about *wanking* (http://www.livejournal.com/community/lower_tadfield/33721.html), of all things. Watch her call herself a "blasmephous bitch" (Sanctity? What?) and us "bored shut-ins" (girl, as long as there's porn to read, ain't never gonna be bored). Then watch everybody else pile in and call her an immature child!

The sad part is, this is the most activity the poor little community's seen in weeks. And now somebody's even gone and started a book discussion thread (http://www.livejournal.com/community/lower_tadfield/34422.html)! This may be the best thing that's ever happened to the fandom!

(And if she actually keeps her word and doesn't come back, it might even *cough* not get too wanky.)

*sighs* Why must annoying girls insist upon giving sixteen year olds a bad name? Whhhyyy? And man, her response is so irritating. Lots of people (including me) have cars, it doesn't make for responsible adults. And also-- throwing your GPA out? I'm sure that wins her lots of friends at school. *rolls eyes*

But she's sixteen. Not a child at all. I bet she's really, really mature for her age, too, eveyone says so, and like, all her friends are older than her because she's so much more advanced than the kids her age...

Thank you all a thousand times over. Being the community mod for lower_tadfield makes me feel very very ARGH about this, and I needed a laugh at the whole thing. I almost wish she hadn't left the community of her own volition - then I'd have got the pleasure of throwing her out myself. (Or of figuring out how to, anyway.)
And the car GPA etc. thing was the most childish bit of it.
You'd think the gel couldn't READ, for... someone's sake, the community info ought have told her to go make her own community.

You know, I can't say I know about Pratchett, but I don't think Gaiman is the type to get all up in arms over fan-activities. You know, as long as they don't go into creepy, stalker "NEIL IS MY TRU LOVE!!!!" mode and try to send him dead animals or fingernails.

After all, it's not like he's secretly Anne Rice in drag.
