The "Secrecy Sensor"...
What the shit?!

These people claim that they're going to accept the Elite Harry Potter fans. That means no fan girls, no plebes, and definitely nobody that anyone has ever heard of in the fandom, ever.

Since when was fandom an elite thing? I wasn't aware I had to apply to be considered worthy of the title of being a Harry Potter Fan (TM). Did I miss a memo or something?

Their user info's the real kicker, though:

- "thee secrecy sensor is a place for the worthy harry potter fans get together. ever been annoyed by the fans who only care about the movie and think that DAn RaDClIFFfFf is SoooOOO HAWTTttttt! and havn't even read the books? yea this is a place to get away from those fools, and reject them as well :D killing two birds with one stone, right? haha. remember: we're not mean, we're elite"

One, learn to spell correctly yourselves before you go ranting about teenyboppers' spelling. "havn't" should probably be "haven't" in this case. Not to mention the complete lack of capitalisation. I mean, this is your user info. If you're going to be elitist bitches, at least present yourselves intelligently.

Oh, and. Um. You might not want to insult the "unworthy fans" and then say "wait, we were just kidding! We're not being mean at all!" Hypocrisy isn't becoming.

- "i guess you could call us snobby, but don't blame us. we only want the best of the best in this community.. and if that means being mean and rejecting you with harsh comments then oh well.. it had to be done. maybe you'll be smarter and become a better fan :D"

Ooh! Ooh! I want to be a better fan! Wait... doesn't being a fan just involve... you know... liking the books? Too right I'll call you snobby. And did I mention hypocrisy? Oh. Sorry. I did.

- " if you fail to do an lj-cut that may hurt your chances of getting into this *magical* community. after your application gets up, members will rate you in the comments. a simple yes or a no would be nice, but i'm sure people will give you some *helpful* (and sometimes mean) pointers in them as well. sucks if you get the mean ones"

First off, "magical" community? Are you offering us special benefits, or just a place in your sekrit little elitist club?

And also, isn't this supposed to be a nice, happy elitist community? Not some raging bitch fest for rejecting people. Oh, wait, it is... ("if that means being mean and rejecting you...")

- "don't get us wrong, we aren't sucking the fun out of harry potter.. we just wanna find the best and people that we can relate to. anyone can post, and i'm sure we'll get some lame entries from rejected people or people who just hate us, but we'll be sure to hate you back, or just delete/ignore your entry"

If you wanted to find people you relate to, why didn't you go to them? You could look around some journals and invite them to a happy community filled with like-minded folk who can sit around talking about stuff they can relate to, and you could even close the community then so that nobody posts hate mail!

Oh. Sorry. I missed the point. The point was to tell people how much they suck as a Harry Potter fan, and to point and laugh at them and make them feel unworthy of your attention. My mistake.

Personally, I don't see what relevence half of these questions have to being a fan. Do any of you have a favorite song from the movies? I didn't even know there were songs in the movies! Also, I don't see why what character I would be or what I think my animagus would be are fair questions. First off, if the voters don't like the character you picked, you won't get any votes. Secondly, we don't even know what determines an animagus' form -- curly questions designed to lure us into their trap, methinks...

Oh, and "Why do you want to be a part of this community?" That's just asking for the answer "Oh, because I want to be high and mighty and elitist just like you, your highness! *kisses feet*"

It's hardly comprehensive. It has ten characters on the list (eleven if you count the twice-mentioned Voldemort), including Kreacher but leaving out Hagrid, no mention of Draco Malfoy, or Cornelius Fudge, or any of the other long-standing characters (McGonagall, Snape, anyone?). Seems a pretty thin list. And also, the mysterious mention of "stars", which is not something I connect with Harry Potter in particular.

Plus... I don't even get the community name.

How many elite LJ communities can one fandom support? This is the what, third one to get mentioned here on f_w?

Heh, I think those questions are copied exactly from one of the previously wanked elite communities!

Just read over some of those applications. The responses can be to die for, especially when the only reason for a rejection (read: "no, you can't enter this community because I sacrificed all semblance of original thinking to join this!!1") is "I don't like the character you like -- hurrrr."

Ah, yes. See, the HP fandom, being centrally composed of kids and middle schoolers, are apt to have their feelings hurt. Naturally, this is unacceptable. There is a sekrit movement to create enough elite communities so as to, at one point or another, include each and every member of the fandom in some Sooper Eleet Kommunitee. Feel special, kids. I hear Welch's came out with a new My-Sekrit-Klub-Got-TOSed!-On-LJ flavor. Flying off the shelf, that is.

I particularly like that they require you to insult the fans they don't like in order to gain admittance. Nothing like flaming to bond a community.

This community was wanked in September with a similar post, but that doesn't mean they're no less deserving of it now. I think I may have spurred this new revival of its wankiness. I posted about it, and then Erin and various other folk who read my LJ (a lot) posted about it after...

They mod all their applications (or are just very fast at deleting them), so all of the entertaining/rude ones I got people to write never see the light. How dare they have no sense of humor about their own idiocy!

I wasn't aware I had to apply to be considered worthy of the title of being a Harry Potter Fan (TM).

This is not a Harry Potter thing. Every fandom has people that not only think they can lay down the law about who is or who isn't a fan... they actually think they can KICK SOMEONE OUT OF A FANDOM. Or if not them, then someone else. Alt.Fan.Furry used to have a thread at least once a week about people who were/ought to be/were going to be "kicked out" of furry.
(Of course, the only people more stupid than the ones who think someone can be kicked out of a fandom are the ones who actually believe they have been kicked out. I've honestly seen people say "I was kicked out of the fandom! But I'm GLAD, you hear me, GLAD!")
You can have fallings-out with the majority of the ORGANIZED fandom. Captain N fandom is a very small one nowadays, with pretty much only one little group of websites that are linked together and cooperate. I had a huuuuge fallout with the operator of those websites. But that doesn't suddenly deny me the right to be a fan of Captain N.

What I find interesting is the volume of responses to the applications, aka, the 'chance to be meaaaaaaan' versus the relatively few responses to actual discussion questions.

The apps all have 20-30 replies. But the serious questions? 4-5. (Except for 'Do you like fanfiction?' which has 41.)

Kind of throws doubt on their purpose, doesn't it?

I feel that many fanfiction writers are more talent than JK herself. Rowling may have a creative, vast, and vivid imagination... But her writing skills THAT ARE IN CAPS don't match it. Her villians are cardboard cutouts of evil peope without any cause. It's sad, really. And then people argue and say how Harry Potter isn't a child's book. It is. Maybe some things that happen in the books are a little to mature for the immature audience, but the writing is what makes it's a children's book.

I die a little death for your pleasure, HPtards.

"It can't be a children's book! I like it! Therefore, the author isn't very good, even though I masturbate to thoughts of Book 6! OMG DRACO 4EVA"
