oh, HP. will the wanking never cease?

spun off of a thread at FA park entitled "does anyone but me hate--," wherein people bitch and moan about hermione, we have the great house elf methods debate. wherein people are rilly rilly passionate about house elf rights. even if they don't know how to spell "elves."

A truly wonderful bit of Trek wank that I do 'feverently' wish I could share with you all. It came from a co-worker of mine back when ST: Voyager started. For those of you who aren't familiar with the series Kess was a member of a race of people who lived 7 years. (Or maybe 9, I can't remember.) She's portrayed, at 1 year old, as a full adult. And she was *gasp* in a sexual relationship with a man!

But, my friend wailed, she's only ONE YEAR OLD! That's child sexual abuse! Paramount should be ashamed! Gene Rodenberry should roll in his grave! She would NEVER, NEVER watch Trek again! She sent a petition to the studio...blahdiddy blah blah blah.

All this wank over characters who are 1) Fictional. Not real, ya know. And 2) Not human, and therefore having a culture different from humans. Species-centricness. You just have to laugh.

i'm waiting for someone to use the phrase, "sentient beings" in relation to the elves. but something tells me that i might be expecting too much.

Ocampas lived 7 years.

And you know, if you want to protest something, forget her freaking age...let's protest the fact that fans were forced to picture her and Neelix having sex. Some fans will never recover!

Not to mention that 1-2 years old(?) is apparently a sexually mature age, so it's roughly comparable, isn't it?

Though really, maybe making sense of Star Trek wank is asking too much...

o.o

Godgodgod, make it stop. I read the books, sure, but I will never actually join this fandom. Ugh. AWAY. UNCLEAN.

To prove I'm not a total bitch, though, actually that first page or so was rather interesting to read. Very calm and fair. Don't know about the rest, I'm stopping there for the day to go have a life. I need one. Really.

Ship names only came along with the advent of FAP, and those who created the ship threads on FAP had to be creative. Some of them are crap, but some of them are all right, and have significance if you've read some of the stories (like the Harry/Draco "Guns and Handcuffs", for Snitch! and Irresistible Poison).

I mean, the idea of having ship names institutionalised in the fandom is pretty lame, but I don't think you really need to know all of the ship names.

Don't worry, you're not the only one. I've been on the GCU Who the Hell Cares? since FAP started doing this ship name crapola back in '01.

Ugh. Not the first time I've seen House Elf wank. And the trouble always starts when someone compares them to African slaves. Of course, when someone suggests that JKR got the idea from the mythical Brownies, the little elves that do chores for people and get insulted and leave if they are rewarded, they get ignored, of course.

I once saw someone suggest that "Brownie" was a racial slur. Riiiiight...

Oh, because we all know that J.K. Rowling created unicorns, vampires, werewolves, fairies, and elves all by her lonesome! She did not build off of existing myths and fairy-tales one bit! "Brownies" must be a slur by those storytellers hundreds of years ago that knew J.K. was gonna' steal their thunder!

/sarcasm

Egads, some of these message board communities annoy me.

OMG, you mean I *wasn't* the only person to realize that?! By looking at that thread, you'd think it had flown right over those idiots' heads. X_x Which, of course, I'm guessing it has.

And, yep - quickest way to offend a Brownie and make sure it never comes back and cleans your filthy house again is to - you guessed it - offer the little guy clothes.

All I can say is 'Looks like *someone* hasn't read Hogwarts: A History'. *or in this case, an entire fucking fandom*

There's a reason why it's called "FAP" for short.

It's the sound of sane people whacking these zero-lifers upside the head.

(For all the good that does us... ¬.¬;;)

I'm just...so very glad that somebody has reported this. But, really, shouldn't we just do as Kanna suggested a while back and install a permanent link to FAP?

I mean, they've let the H/H-R/H Debate take up something like fifty threads. ~rolls eyes~ Honestly!
