Is Bale Batman?
It's been confirmed for at least a week or two: Christian Bale of "American Psycho" fame is the new Batman! WOOHOO! Now that the lead has been cast, producers have picked up the pace on "Batman: Intimidation Game" (yes, that IS apparently the new Batman movie's title)! WOOHOO! OMGBALEISSOPERFECTFORBATMAN!!!11

Right?

Uh, not according to a guy known as Rayne on the Superherohype.com messageboard. Watch as he refutes every possible pro-Bale opinion on the subject, even though he started the post thread wondering what other people thought of it.

Open up your last 12 issues of Batman and take a look. THAT Batman is what I want to see, not the 190-pound version.

Like THAT'S how directors cast their Batmen - the way the artists draw the chars...

Note to Rayne: comic book characters evolve over time. Usually they keep the base elements of themselves, but other aspects, like their physiques, change. Note that superheros of the 50's didn't have that doped-up-on-steroids-look you see today. And the ladies didn't exactly look like breast implant models either.

Totally agreeing there. Spider-man especially went through a great number of costume changes alone, not to mention his appearance between comics, shows, and movies. (Toby wasn't my pick for the part by appearances alone, but he ended up impressing me.)

There's a classic scene in a semi-recent Superman where Lois clearly gets jealous because Wonder Woman has bigger tits.

Oh good christ. He's a good actor with a built in fan base. Look at his abs, those are god's own abs. Bale is close enough.

I still think that the next Batman should be Kurt Russell. But I'm biased. ;-)
I won't argue too much; anybody's better than George Clooney in my book. (When even the *actor* says that he doesn't feel good about the role... you know it's bad.)

OT: Oooh! Ninja Turtles!!!

Gah. Bale is better than Kilmer or Clooney, in my book, based on his previous acting alone (Hell, based on Newsies alone.)

However, I'm still not ready to shake my love for Keaton-Batman. I love him so.

He's right, Bale shouldn't be Batman. He should be Nightwing. In a Nightwing movie.

...Wait, the voices have just informed me that I have once again confused Reality with The Universe In Which Major Motion Pictures Are Tailor-Made To Suit My Sexual Fantasies Personal Specifications. It's one of the risks of being a comics geek.

(I am on the record as being of the "WOOHOO!" camp on the Bale casting.)

Well, for me, Keaton is Batman. ::recalls those SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skits...I am Batman:: Kilmer wasn't too bad, but...Clooney injured me. I kept on thinking he'd bust out asking for 40 CCs of something or other. And the fact that they made that whole movie about sicknesses didn't help me at all. Typecasting a bit, yes...but I think my brain exploded when he injected the cure into Alfred (that was my other complaint: YOU DONT MESS WITH ALFRED!) and I kept on flashing to ER. IT was bad.

But as for Christian Bale...it's gonna be shiny. I like the man as an actor, and I like the man as being a shiny shiny thing to watch. He'll bring the dignity back to that role, I think. Not that it had a huge amount in the first place, but... ::shivers:: Batman and Robin...

To me, the worst part of "Batman and Robin" was that Michael Gough (Alfred) was the best actor in the movie ... and he was on his death bed for most of his scenes. I kept thinking, "if Alfred dies on us, there goes the last bit of coherence this flick has!"

And Clooney just did not get that he was supposed to play Batman, not Bruce Wayne.
