it's about how she is such a good wee fan, so I dub it fandom
I am a Johnny Depp fan. Instead of just saying this, I will explain it to you. In detail. Also, new fans suxxors.

I actually confess this isn't the first place I saw her little piece. It was in the depp_daily community, which I subscribe to for the picspam, obviously. I found the johnny_depp one from someone else's rant. Ahem.

Her disclaimer:

"A paragraph or so of opinions concerning Mr. Depp and his fandom. Caution- it is unadvisable for you to continue if you do not appreciate the right of someone to a personal opinion. Please do not read if you are easily offended and not a loyal fan, for I can bide no inane chatter aka flames in response. Perhaps some will find it harsh, but reality often is."

Second verse, same as the first. I only noticed this because the first time I saw it, it was breaking community rules. And this little exchange in the comments:

[info]elite: "PS: The movie was doomed to be mainstream from the beginning, you know. It was a big-budget Disney film with a Lord Of The Rings actor starring."
[info]judas_iscariot: "Response to P.S. Yeah, I know, I know... but somehow it still saddens me that it attracted so many of the faithless sheep."

Man, fuck Elijah Wood. Depp's our new wacky Jesus. I am way too amused at the comments in relation to the usernames.

haha! I love the anonymous one in Depp Daily that said "This is a picture posting community". That is something I write all the time when I'm modding at RightClickLick. I don't care if you lick the ground he walks on...I'm only here for the pic spam.

Wow, and I thought that *I* sometimes sound long winded and pretentious...*blink*

I understand older, long term fans getting frustrated when there's a sudden influx of newbies to their particular fandom/actors, but it's to be expected. I happen to be one of those annoying newly turned Depp fans, though it was OUATIM that turned me rather than PotC, though I was very impressed by his performance in that.

And whoever said in that thread that squealing fangirls can mature into longterm fans is totally right - I started off as a squealing Ewan McGregor fan at 12/13, I'm now 19 and still a fan though I squeal less, or at any rate, perhaps more eloquently. *g* Anyway...I just...Hmm. Blimey.

Man, fuck Elijah Wood. Depp's our new wacky Jesus.

He's always been my wacky Jesus!

No, instead I fear I will only get to see the waves of endless and ultimately insipid teeny-boppers and so called 'fans' which emerged after Pirates of the Caribbean.

Oh, Lord. As opposed to the waves of endless and teeny-boppers (myself included) who emerged after A Nightmare on Elm Street and "21 Jump Street"? (Officer Tom Hanson!!!1 I wish that narc would come to my school!!! eeeeeee!)

These sheep- these driveling nitwits simply pervert and pollute all of which I believe in- not to mention that which I am almost certain Mr. Depp himself stands for.

Yes, way to suggest you know Mr. Depp's mind. That's why he signed on for the Pirates sequel.

The sheer amount of talent muchless anything else which went into his portrayal of one Hunter S. Thompson was astounding, simply astounding. After a brief contemplation regarding his role and the subsequent rating of his success, I realized he was simply brilliant.

You said the same thing. The SAME THING. Twice, in two different sentences, one after the other -in the same GODDAMN PARAGRAPH.

They will step forth intent upon publicizing the aberrant nature of my deviant notions as well as the disgraceful manner in which I expressed them.

There, right there, she got mauled by a thesaurus, poor girl never stood a chance. And the adjectives! Think of the adjectives! ::SOB::

Look, I can do it too!

"After reading the above-referenced website I have come to an inordinate conclusion that the person responsible for this insipid drivel not only ignores the basic tenets of concise essay discourse but fails to respond responsibly to percieved slights. The writer's inability to write clearly and succinctly ultimately damages her own attempts at elevating herself above the precieved 'sheep' she so acutely expressed discontent concerning. She, as I judge based soley on her singular, badly worded essay, is not only bombastic and deficient in the ways of deliberation, she reveals herself to be little but a doo-doo head with ca-ca for brains."

Wee! That was fun! I should be pretentious more often!

Enamored in the sense that I speak of his talent and personal character, not of his appearance. Which, when I come across someone who judges him solely upon this, feel quite disgusted and deep loathing for the shallow and vapid individual of who decided they needed to become both his judge and jury without prior knowledge of him as a person nor of his acting skills. Talent which should not and can not be ignored if one simply attempts to understand and view his work.

Hey, Iscariot, Victor Hugo called and said he wants his writing style back.

Dude, talk about long-winded pretentious crap. You may be writing the most eloquent fanbitch out there but it's still basically the same old "newbies suck and Johnny is the best actor EVAH!!!" shit that goes around practically every fandom. I mean, we can all play holier-than-thou fans when we feel like it but not all of us feel the need to write unnecesarily verbose rants that essentially boil down to nothing.

Personally I think I prefer the fangirls. At least they're honest about the fact that it's possible to be a fan of some one based on (shock! horror!) physical appearance.

A lesson in proper English grammar for one Ms. Veresti Tristian:

1. (which, is my own and I have a right to that, given to me by the constitution of the United States of America.)

(which is my own, and I have a right to that given to me by the Constitution of the United States of America.)--'is my own and I have a right to that' is not a clause, and therefore should not be separated by commas. Constitution is capitalized, as that is the proper name for it.

2. Yes, I realize that a few true fans WILL immerge

Yes, I realize that a few true fans WILL emerge. Immerge: To submerge or disappear in or as if in a liquid. Emerge: To rise from or as if from immersion.

3. I in point of fact had decided to view Pirates of the Caribbean because of Depp, not Bloom.

I, in point of fact, had decided to view Pirates of the Caribbean because of Depp, not Bloom.--'in point of fact' IS a clause, as it is not needed in the sentence for it to make sense, so commas SHOULD separate it from the rest of the sentence.

4. And sadly enough, it is mostly followers aka 'sheeps' which make up a large percentage of the numbers.

And sadly enough, it is mostly followers aka 'sheep' which make up a large percentage of the numbers.--There is no plural form of sheep, it is one sheep, two sheep. You don't say mooses or deers, and you don't say sheeps.

In conclusion, before you make yourself out to be a pretentious scholar (of one Mr. Depp, whatever), please try to do more than right click words on your Microsoft Word document page and randomly pick synonyms for them. It makes you look ridiculous, and it makes your mistakes even more glaring. Not mention that you sound like an essayist out of the 1900s. While those big words sure do have more than two syllables, that is simply not how people talk anymore. Not only fandom/internet people, but authors, poets, essayists and critics as well.

You're making a fool of yourself to anyone not blinded by your use of three syllable words, and not moved by your ardent plea for the purification of the fandom.

Steph

(Also, honey, if you're going to try to be pretentious, do it all the way, and don't stick in random vernacular constructions: Especially once I saw a few short films in which Mr. Hunter S. Thompson his-self was present, indeed percieving just how closely Mr. Depp managed to come to actually acting precisely like him.)

And the really scary/annoying/amusing thing is how many people are not only agreeing with her self-righteous, pretentious bullshit, but are applauding the way she wrote it.

Sorry, judas_iscariot, but it's been said before you, in many fandoms, by many people...and whether it's written like a grocery list or a master's thesis, the "Fux0r! N00bs sux0r!" line of thought, is, was, and always will be classic wank. When you write as if your parents conceived you on top of the Oxford English Dictionary, the wank factor rises exponentially.

2003-10-09 05:14 am UTC (link)
To me, this seems to be nothing except a long stream of uneffective synonyms for one-syllable adjectives that were listed in a thesarus. And I suppose that we should all have great respect for her, b/c she basically portrays her status as a Johnny Depp fan as being well above the rest of others... somehow. Even though she didn't come out and actually say that she believes that she's right or that everyone should agree, there's an always an underlying motive or reason for out-of-nowhere arguments or two-cents. Whether it be subconscious or not.

I believe that we're all on the same level. A fan is a fan, isn't it? To me, it doesn't matter how long you've admired him, how many times you've seen all of his movies, or even how much you think you know about him. Exactly how does a person gain the status as being a "better" fan? And if one believes that he is a better fan, then that doesn't necessarily or even automatically make him a better person than everyone else or more worthy of Johnny Depp's attention if he were to give it to a fan. It would seem as if fans would be in it together, b/c of their love and admiration for the same thing even if it be for different reasons.

But since she's such a true and sophisticated fan of Johnny Depp's, I can only expect her to not be among the fangirls who are squealing, crying, and screaming as they all watch him walk down the red carpet in actual person if she were to ever be blessed with such an opportunity. I seriously doubt thinking "Look at the rest of these insipid teeny-boppers." and not being taken by the moment would get his attention among a crowd of loud and excited people cheering his name. Yet... I don't would expect her to fall into the same unworthiness or succumb to such a lowly status as that being of a fangirl's. Yes, we're all cool, calm, collected, and full of big, intelligent words... until we actually meet the object of our admiration. And that's when the script is flipped.

So, her "essay" left me unimpressed. And it's not "reality" as she puts it. In her own, little world it is. But who the hell cares? Johnny Depp is fucking hot, right? Neither are his looks all of what he is nor are talents all of what he is.

Besides, isn't that a picture-posting community anyway? But I suppose all opinions and rants are acceptable since she has the "right to personal opinion", especially the "Fuck you" bit when there was no actual person arguing with her. Defensive over absolutely nothing and for no given reason. So, why should anyone respect her opinion when she says something like that? I am able to respect opinions even if I may not agree with them or "like" them. But being told "fuck you" if I don't like them? That doesn't settle well with me. Obviously, since she said that in advance, she simply cannot take the heat of the only-inevitable controversy in the fandom world, lol.

(This comes up rather often in LOTR where you have the people that have been reading the book since before most of the fanbase was born.)

My favorite part had to be the 'wah, I posted my megawhine to 80 different communities and you peons expect ME to respond to YOUR pithy comments. Why don't y'all go read everyone else's comments so you don't repeat yourselves.' Riiiiight *pat pat*
