And the XanderZone explodes again...
Xanderistas in general are a pretty explosive bunch. Insane Xander-fans of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer tend to be just a little overprotective of their favorite carpenter, and the locos at the XanderZone are some of the most fervent. But this is a FIRST for them.

A wank over George W. Bush and politics in general.

Not that I think the man isn't wank worthy, but from this group, this is just about one of the funniest things I've seen all year.

Well, the boy in the White house I'm not too happy about either,
and I'm not even an American...
I read somewhere that Bush Jr. IQ is about half that of
Clinton...literally (something like IQ 90 vs. 180) I have no idea
if it's true, but IMHO Bush Jr. have displayed a remarkable lack of
common sense and logic thinking at times...

You folks dont know the half of it... things like classifing
presidential papers going back to his fathers adminstration. Giving
Tax breaks in the name of econmic growth and then given even more
when the first wave didnt do shit. Thats aksi known as trying to buy
donations form the rich... Lossing millions of jobs and even
encouraging they overseas... For instance, call AOL tech support and
you get India...
The Steel industry is nearly extinct in the US.
Grrrrr
I could go on but my blood pressure is already skyhigh.. Needless to
say I dont like W.

You know speaking as a Republican AND a Conservative, MIGHT I suggest
we drop this debate NOW before things get ugly and people get their
feelings hurt.
Politics like Religion and Money is one of those issues that ALWAYS
results in heated debates that serve no purpose and only end up
hurting things.

Followed by a few posts about how nobody wants to start a political debate on the list...and then

Hi! I'm a newbie and was wondering on how to introduce myself
when this came up.
Okay, I'm *very* political! I can't help it. It comes from being
raised in Quebec for over half my life (yes, I remember both
referendums and even voted in the last one). It also comes from
having friends who are both federalist and separatist (and for the
latter referendum, discussing politics was a no-no. And believe me,
when you were a poli-sci major at the time, this can become
difficult). It comes from having family members who are members
with the Conservatives, Liberals, NDP, Canadian Alliance and yes,
even the Bloc Quebecois parties (and I have a friend who's been a
member of *all* of these parties). I can even claim the distinction
of having met every PM from Trudeau to Chretien, along with meeting
almost every party leader (except Martin and Harper). I also have a
political science degree from McGill University and love to argue
politics in certain settings.
I'm not sure if this group should be one of them.
Unfortunately I've seen what can happen when some members decide to
speak their views--and believe me, I do encourage this as I believe
that it is a right to speak one's mind. However, if there are more
than a few people who find aspects of some posts to be even mildly
offensive, than the topic should usually be discussed off the list
in private emails to one another. Many a times, members will drop a
list if it gets to be too political or have their points of view and
beliefs trampled on.
While I'm not a republican or conservative (I'm too much of a
bleeding heart liberal minded kind of gal for that), I do respect
those who are (or at least try to depending on if they can back up
their statements with fairly accurate facts, not just pure emotion).
I joined the Xanderzone because I'm a fan of Xander and wanted to be
involved in a discourse of Xander, not politics (though I do live
for that). I joined because I wanted to be involved in a little
fun, not become involved in a heavy discourse of politics.
I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but I think for this kind of
topic, there are some people who think with their emotions,
trampling on people's beliefs and feelings without concrete thought
to this.
Once again I'm sorry if this offends anyone.
I hate people who say things like that after a whole page of stuff that might piss people off. I mean...please.
Heck of a way to introduce myself, huh?
Yeah, genius...

Stop being such a great wuss Mandy, get involved in politics, it
worked for Arnie. Cause a stir in this group and make a lot of
enemies, but don't touch Tenhawk or Tim Joy (most controversial, most
likely to cause you to fall from a great height with an almighty
splat!)
And it should be the stated that Spike is the polar opposite to the
Xand man, and should be regarded as such. Okay to make them tentative
allies, not okay to make them lovers (Yechhhhh)

See, you just have to state things in a manner that everyone can
enjoy and understand. Plus, since this is a Xander group, your belief
should be expressed in Xander-like terms.
For example: Demoncrats are like Spike... evil, soulless, demon-
possessed corpses that exist for the sole purpose of draining society
dry.
This political thought for the day was provided by:

Head Honcho of the We Hate Demoncrats Club.

As a Libertarian, I despise anyone who worships the thought of government
pushing itself into peoples lives. DEATH TO SOCIALISM IN ALL IT"S FORMS.

And now it seems to have ended in a discussion about the World Rugby/Soccer Cup [and I know they're not the same thing, but the discussion has ranged over both] or something, as well as a buncha people going "if you didn't want to talk about it, stop fricking talking about not talking about it! This is a fanfic board!"

Meh...

Oh God. I remember a particular wank (that I, to my shame, was an enthusiastic participant in) over on alt.tv.angel after the ep "Spin The Bottle" aired. Apparently a bunch of people were disenchanted that Cordelia didn't like Bush (the line: "I know who's president, though I kinda wish I didn't....") and went to ridiculous lengths to maintain the fantasy of their beloved Cordy being a Republican, including-- get this-- positing an alternate universe in the Jossverse wherein Gore was elected instead of Bush. Yeah, 'cause that makes so much sense. I also remember the guy who suggested that Cordy is SEKRITLY Republican but she has to pretend to be a liberal because lord knows everything in Hollywood is controlled by Barbra Streisand and her damn Democrat cronies, and a young up-and-coming actress will never get anywhere if she admits to being a conservative! It's an Evil Liberal Conspiracy!

Yeah. Occam's Razor, people.

(Unfortunately, the whole thing degenerated into a wank-fest over whether Bush was actually elected, a debate I enthusiastically jumped into despite not having a fucking clue, and that whole Liberal Media Conspiracy thing. Gag me.)

Anyway. In other words, Buffy + Politics = Teh Suck. Then again, throw politics into anything non-political and, inevitably, Teh Suck.

Dang. My secret love for Doctor Evil will have to remain hidden forever then. After all, I'm a fairy liberal political retard, he's... well... evil. I guess it was never meant to be.

I am not uncomfortable with this comparison.

See, I always thought the three topics you should avoid discussing if you don't want to start a giant angry wankathon were politics, religion, and Buffy the fucking Vampire Slayer.

Given season 6, you could take that statment in a lot of different ways.

Yeah, I realized that after I'd already clicked the posty button, and regretted it, for it distracts from the vehemence I was going for there. Dangit.

But I don't want to bring the funny by tracking it in on the bottom of my shoe! I want to burst through the door with a big ol' gift basket and have everyone exclaim, "Yay, Amanda's here! And she brought the funny!"

...I should get some sleep.

I love Hameln. I'm a relatively new fan, but my obsession makes up for the length of time. Just finished watching the TV series today, in fact[and my head is about to explode in confusion/depression/anger/WTF etc.], and I'm still scouring looking for more of the manga...cause it's great. I had fun the other day and made some Hameln icons...
