2:13pm: Reading friendsfriends on LJ, I came across this:

I thought fans were supposed to be intelligent and above the high-school level crap. IMO, f_w and associated groups have a useful purpose, and a lot of it is damn funny, but there's a level of maliciousness that chills me lately. I see it everywhere.

An interesting post, if I don't quite agree with the implied similarities between what FW does and cruelty to young children and the mentally handicapped. Some very interesting comments, as well, unsurprisingly mostly dealing with DomLijah.

ETA: And yet another thought-provoking essay on the subjects of fanpower and the actor as social currency by auralonde.

(Um. Look at me posting serious things instead of pointing and laughing material - bad me! Will find some true wank soon to make up for it.)

Two new communities here on JF, both inspired by FW posts.

fandom_rant came from this thread on Fandom_Wank. (Turns out "Haters_Unlimited" is too long a name.) If you've got something fandom-related to get off your chest, and you expect to be taken to task for it-- or if you're just spoiling for an argument-- feel free to bring your hate to Fandom_Rant.

Also. Are you a FW lurker? Enjoy the in-jokes and gossip, but just can't bring yourself to join in because of FW's bad rep in fandom? Or maybe there's something you'd like to joke about that isn't really a wank? Hie yourself over to the fandom_lounge.

Not directly related to fandom, although boy_touching mostly consists of fangirls so still on topic:
