There it is!

More navel gazing in Smallville. It didn't start out that way. Bonibaru and tstar78 decided to issue a fanfic challenge after bonibaru made an offhand remark about the current trend of domestic SV fic. Rosenho takes the comment and runs with it, prompting a discussion about criticism and fanfic trends. "All of fandom is a big, nasty mess of insecurity and neurosis, so I fail to understand how maligning the current flavor of the week (which is current because, um, real human beings are writing it and enjoying it,) is going to convince anyone to write your personal belly liniment next week."

Bonibaru first responds in rosenho's LJ, and then in her own. "Because I love fandom, I do. Can't I be allowed to not like babyfic? Please?"

Then livia gets into the act. "Even if your plotty, original opus gets no attention at all? 'Cause I've seen that happen too -- well, who cares? What and who are you really writing for? Them, or you?"

Unlike most fandom_wank posts about SV, it's not flamey by any means -- most of the participants are polite and defend their viewpoints well -- but some of the comments from certain writers are extremely wanky in their delusion and self-importance. Enjoy!

2:21pm: Amnesia can be fun!

7:45pm: How dare you oppress me by forcing me to cut spoilers!
As anybody who's anywhere near the HP fandom knows, the The Leaky Cauldron released the OoTP summary from the Scholastic catalog that sort of raised a fuss.


Even though I completely understand about not wanting to know any spoilers (Buffy spoiler vegan), I was still a little amused at some of the more stronger anti-spoiler reactions. But then I saw lavenderoracle's response to it all in ( this fun post: )


Still, the wank isn't over yet. Someone brilliantly responded to one of the stronger reactions by saying that if they want to avoid spoilers to just turn off their computer. Because putting spoilers in some kind of tag is just too much effort.

The issue of "Is Tomoyo really a lesbian?!" pops up again here.
However, while you do have the teenyboppers who deny any form of homosexuality, you also have the people who claim Tomoyo is actually a heterosexual fetishist.

I admit, I have no respect for CLAMP's writing ability, and the ending of CCS is a huge example why. To see people argue (at length, even) something that was so bad in the first place makes my pretentious brain turn to mush and ooze out of my ears.
