12:16am: The P5 Strike Again!
In one thread, the folks on this comics board get in all the good jabs at us Perverted Plagiarist Pedophile Potter Pornographers. However, the Boston Globe article she references is actually halfway decent, and doesn't assume that all HP slashers are freaks.

This is some prime wank, folks! )

1:02am: My first wank!
It's a teenie icon wank but I thought, eh, why not? It counts!

"I hate humans!"

"Well, humans hate you too!"
2:52am: You can't have an icon community without wank!
I wish I'd gotten to this one earlier, because the original post has been edited it to make the poster sound like a poor sweet darling...which is wank in itself, I guess!

In summation: teeny angstqueen "Sadako" posted how "offended" she is (I distinctly recall the use of that word) that nobody ever takes her crappy icons, all in a pissy self-pitying "you all suck and if you don't take THIS icon I'm gonna delete my journal" tone. Anonymous #1 takes her to task in one curt plain sentence. Sadako bursts out into wounded wails. Anonymous #2 backs up Anonymous #1, Calliope adds another reasonable two cents, Sadako REALLY loses it (with profanity!), and Cookie Kween smooches Sadako's ass like there's no tomorrow.

Then the second wave of bleeding-heart teenaged iconwhores who didn't see Sadako's original bitchy post weigh in righteously against the "mean flamers," and it just gets kinda pathetic.

Edit: Oooops. I didn't see this. Should I leave this up or take it down? Sorry, posting at 3 am does things to your brain. :)

5:00am: Okay, that's it, I'm turning myself and everyone on the MSR in (YET AGAIN).
I'm a bit undecided on whether this should actually go on [info]fandom_rant instead, but... oh god, Mary Sue Report, will you EVER lay off on the wank? You're going to make yourself blind at this rate!

See folks, today, we had a new member come in and introduce herself. Nothing out of the ordinary, right? Sure, until we hit this line:

Anyways, that's it for now, but I promise I'm going to find a fic worthy of a flamefest.

For the last time, folks: THAT IS NOT WHAT THE MSR WAS EVER - OR SHOULD EVER - BE ABOUT.

Anyway, at first, people pat her on the back and whatever, while I try to hold my tongue until I can come up with a way of saying my two cents in the matter without it being more bitchtastic than it needs to be. That is, until [info]kannaophelia has the common sense to call her out on that statement, and explain how this is all supposed to be for FUN. People come in to back her up, including an excellent point brought up by our own [info]dawnswalker about how the community will wind up getting ToS'ed if it stops being about the humor and seriously turns into what it's been acting like lately (There IS a difference between witty, snarky humor and just being plain mean, people.), and someone else pointing out the rather unusual spike in angry authors coming in during the past month or so (*adjusts that person's super-sekrit disguise over here on JF* :D), and me being progressively more and more bitchtastically wanky in the followup posts where I agree with them all and add my own two cents.

Some people, thankfully, get the point.

However, some random lurker decides to come in and accuse those of us complaining that "Well, it's all your own fault if you never have brought up the subject before," despite the fact that I think it's pretty safe to say that most of the people who've complained thus far on that thread HAVE ALREADY BEEN DOING THIS FOR AGES, JUST ABOUT EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY NOTICE SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN*. So of course, I kindly told the person to have a nice cup of SHUT THE FUCK UP please not generalize like that, thus sealing my already obvious wankiness in the whole thing.

This is still quite fresh off the grill, so there will likely be further replies on the subject to keep an eye out for.

Seriously, though: I just feel really bad for [info]redpanda having to deal with this crap. I'm starting to think that she may need to keep one of her JournalFen codes freed up, because at the rate things are going, there's a good chance that the MSR will eventually get ToS'ed by LJ for all this bullshit**. *sigh*

*[I can certainly attest for myself, who's come in to call out people from everything from rallying people to go leave crits for an author, to people criticizing bad grammar when theirs is equally atrocious or WORSE than the author's, to people who've bitched about the MSes' making characters all OOC and then turning around to say that OMG MY HIGHLY IMPROBABLE NON-CANON COUPLE IDEA IS ALWAYS SOOOO MUCH BETTAH THAN ANY STINKY SUE, NO MATTER HOW BADLY WRITTEN!!!!!1!!11; all during the three or four months I've been a member. Just look around in the archives, and you'll find me pop up to pontificate here and there.]

**[And I think everyone on F_W can pretty much agree on THAT one, given the past history this comm had with LJ Abuse...]

12:44pm: X-Files, how I love thy wank...
First wank I post, and only because [info]kristenk2 asked me nicely ;)

Remember the Haven board? It was recently fandom_wanked because of a thread about a certain rape-fics.

But there's much more wank on it. Here is one of them. Thread in question: Question about slash. Some poster asks whether people read it. And the wank begins...

First step: Quotes like:

"No I dont read anything like that. M&S is the only pairing for me"

"Me niether. I suppose it's niave of me, but sex is always about more than just sex and since I will always see what M&S have as being perfect with each other, they're the only ones I could ever imagine together, fantasy or no."

and

"Since you ask, I don't read slash fic under any circumstances."

Second step: Quotes like:

"I'm astounded that such issues about mischaracterization even arise in slash, given that the genre requires (at least in XF's case) a massive mischaracterization even to exist. We have zero, zip, zilch proof that *any* character on TXF is gay. We have ample evidence, on the other hand, that Mulder, Skinner and Krycek are straight, given what we've seen on the show regarding their sexual preferences. "

"The gender of the "other" is irrelevant to me since I typically avoid stories that stray from established characterization."

But the real wank on this thread are stormlantern and Touchstone. Touchstone, being a BNF and MSR-barbieshipper, who throws around things like:

"Mulder is a written character. If he had been shown to have had or mentioned to have had male relationships, fine. Just as you know your friend had other relationships. Fine. But had she not told you, you can't just pull out of the air and devine that she would have a same sex relationship. Therefore, if you were trying to write about her in a way that was true to what you *know* of her then you couldn't just guess at something like that and put it in your story and say there's a 10% probability that it could be true and present it as fact--*if* you were trying to remain undeniably truthful in your portrayal of her based on what you do know . That is the most important thing in fic for me. Whether you agree with my analogy or not, it is valid in its context, IMO. "

and, above all this one:

"You *are* either a person inclined to do that or *not.* That's the "is or isn't" If you are, then obviously it *did* happen but it happened because that is a trait you have-- being open to men or women. ... And as far as we've seen in canon, M&S haven't been open to same sex relationships."

To quote [info]kristenk2:

"Let me get this, um, straight....Mulder, who has been shown to be open to ANY and EVERY theory, idea, tenet, belief and/or philosophy in the entire universe, INCLUDING ALIEN ABDUCTION, yes *that* Fox Mulder, he ISN'T and he couldn't POSSIBLY be, open to same-sex relationships?!?!

Nor could I'm-a-hardcore-Catholic-except-when-I'm-lost-and-personally-unfulfilled-then-I'll-try-out-some-quasi-Buddhist-theory-and-see-how-it-goes Scully??"

MSR-barbieshippers are just too much fun to watch...

Get Fuzzy, a popular comic strip with a very popular syndication feed on livejournal.

Who would have guessed that it would require a dose of Harry Potter fandom to take it to such a wankalicious level?
