Once upon a time there was a message board for a little band called Phantom Planet.

And our poster(moi) didn't check it much, as he didn't give much of a fuck. However, he noticed one day on the front page that they'd disposed of their old drummer. So he went on a mighty quest to actually *find* the damn link to the board, as apparently he was too stupid to read a navigator bar.

And lo, he came upon a thread started by one of the eighty thousand(three? four?) guitarists of Phantom Planet, crying: "I am never coming here again."

etc.

cue the populace of the board crying: "We are scum!" except one lone little voice going: "Oh yeah, this is all my fault. Should have emailed me. I stopped insulting Jacques (another guitarist) when he told me I was hurting his pretty little feelings"

and someone suggests she gets her head dunked.

Then the cursing starts.

12:47pm: Hmmm. Thought so.
This should serve to distract from the SF spewage below. Once again, we've got P@L Sign...and this time, she's gloating like she won something. Hands up everyone who saw this coming? *G* Sad, really, when people think "picking a fight" = "victory" -- especially when it wasn't a fight, but rather a mere amusing spectacle/debate.

Oh, and... *waves to P@L* I have a friend who's a regular visitor to your site who tells me these things when they're posted. So don't get all excited thinking I actually pay attention to you on a regular basis. I don't. Sorry.

PS: Snacky's Law gets invoked TWO PARAGRAPHS IN. Beautiful.

2:42pm: More fun from the X fandom...
Someone makes a semi-valid point about the X fandom's bad points.

Someone else jumps ALL IN HER SHIT.

"I'm sorry, but your generalizations about the X fandom are pretty pathetic. The fact that you ARE generalizing and stereotyping shows just how "incredibly shallow" YOU are."

Um. Pot? This is kettle.

2:56pm: It's a whiny meta buffet. No sharing, please.
In one long-ass thread, we have:

- A "Goodbye forever because this board isn't fun like it used to be in The Old Days" message, delivered by proxy, no less
- Tribute graphics in ASCII (okay, that's kind of cute in a very dorky way)
- The "This board is going to hell" / "Then do something about it" / "Who are you to tell me what to do" train wreck that starts on page 6 and goes on for nearly ten pages, bogging down between two extremely long-winded posters (one of which is myself, making this also...)
- Self-wank (/me is NAH, wave to my wanky self! *waves* BTW, I fully admit that I go off the handle at times and can be pompous and easily baited. I'll take no offense at any bashing of my person. Promise. In retrospect it's all ridiculous.)
- People translating each other from Screeching Flamer into English, which means that many of the points are presented at least twice, if not three times
- Comparing the flamewar to "slapping each other in front of a fallen comrade" (probably my favorite part, pg. 11)
- Long blocks of bolded text, because bolded text makes you look very emphatic and serious
- Drive-by armchair psychologizing
- Attempting to win an argument by quoting a dictionary
- A random observer, who had earlier said he liked watching the flamewar, summarizing the entire thing all over again once it starts to simmer down

And oh yeah, a couple of mentions of things that are actually on-topic.

And to top it off, a lot of this was resolved over AIM to find out that fundamentally, some of the participants weren't actually in disagreement, but just thought we were. A beautiful end, I think. *sniff*
8:02pm: Fuckin' A people
Man, I'm gone for one day. Two of my father's siblings have passed this week and I'm not really in the mood for this shit. Stormfreak is banned. Period. When I read the e-mail telling me about what was going on, my first reaction was - well, if she can control herself and not act like a total BUFFOON then she is as welcome here as anyone else - even though her antics last time crossed the line. I don't hold grudges and if she can control her impulses -- well, OK, I guess. She's banned in my personal journal because I have no desire to deal with her 5 year old attention seeking antics. Not to mention the fact she called out her little college kid posse on me. Grow the FUCK up. She also called me a racist. Now I don't know this person, so well, whatEVER. All I had to do to change my mind is read the thread. Stormfreak is not wanted here. I, personally, don't want to deal with the aggravation that having someone so excitable around causes. And since I'm the one who will have to deal with it... Let me say it again, I was all for lifting the ban until I read the thread. Then the joy of it all came back in technicolor. The harassment in my own personal journal, the spamming of journalfen. The posting of pictures. The juvenile antics. I'm tired. I don't want to deal with any of this right now. There are two people banned from JournalFen. Stormfreak is one of them. End of story. And I haven't had time to read the whole thread, though I did see some stuff from Miss Windy that I agreed with. If she's (Stormfreak) mentioned here, it's normal for her to come "defend" herself. And if it stayed on that level, I'd agree. Only, this... person... always has to take it ten steps further. And that is the entire problem.

*grinbounces*

RL obligations have kept me away from the computer this afternoon, but man, what a time I missed!

Have locked down community, which means that no-one but the wankas can post, and no-one can join without mod approval.

Once again and as I predicted and attempted to halt, SF wanked. But really, that's what this community is about. If we didn't have people with insane insecurity/paranoid complexes lusting after the mear mention of their names and appointing themselves as "FWs Mortal Enemy" then where would we be?

FW has finally made itself more fun than [info]dl_anon for an afternoon or so. Kudos.
