11:11am: Star Wars Fans Wasting Bandwidth
This morning I said to myself 'y'know... I'm tired of finding nothing but lame pottersues wank and half-joking wank... I'm going to go look for some real wank to post.' So I visted theforce.net. Specifically, I went to the Attack of the Clones messageboard.

Hoo, boy...

We start off with this nice little whine about bad scriptwriting... which degenerates into a bizarre discussion of expectations, editing, gratuitous characters, karma, and the proper way to spell 'Beru'. For five pages.

Then there's this (locked, but still readable) complaint about the sheer volume of CG in the movie. The first couple of responses basically warn the poster that this will get wanky, and then things head downhill in a hurry. Naturally, ILM is compared to Weta and nobody can agree who is better at it, the die-hards complain that people are just looking for something - anything - to criticize... and this goes on for twelve pages.

Over here somebody complains about double-standards in judging film effects... why does Star Wars get criticized for certain things that the Matrix and LotR also did? So everybody lines up to spend sixteen pages telling him he's wrong.

Somebody has this in his signature:

Star Wars is not Lord of the Rings with space ships
It never was, and it never will be . Peter Jackson's style IS NOT SW That is true for the OT and Pt as well
GET OVER IT!!!
I will not be seeing Return of the King; I refuse to sign that O-OT petition

This reads to me as: I actually think LotR is better than SW, but I don't want to admit it and am going to hide from it instead.

Finally, this guy thinks Mace Windu is in league with darkness and has many, many reasons why. All of them are stupid. People mock him. For twenty-one pages.

ladyoneill wants all you archivists to know that using an automated archive system is lazy.

"That may sound bitchy, but if you run an archive shouldn't that mean you should do the work?"
12:38pm: Wapanese: {wa-pah-nee-s} See: wanker
Urban Dictionary wank! W00t.

What starts as a rather derogatory description of wanna-be Japanese people turns into a dual of definitions. It's rather funny, really. I posted it here because some of the wankiest comments are from the anime fans. It's great.
2:23pm: When old wank becomes new... and fizzles.
In the beginning, there was PISA and all was good. Peter Pettigrew fans were united in rat-positive discussion and Cedar (

In the beginning, there was <a href="http://www.fictionalley.org/fictionalleypark/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52421">PISA</a> and all was good. Peter Pettigrew fans were united in rat-positive discussion and <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/cedarlibrarian/">Cedar</a> (<a href"=http://www.thedarkarts.org/authorLinks/Cedar/Symphonie_Fantastique/">Symphonie Fantastique</a>) and <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/webbapettigrew/">Webba</a> (<a href="http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Webba/">The Devil's Deal</a>), two of the more popular writers of Peterfic, were good friends. They even talked about doing a presentation about Peter at Nimbus 2003.

Then Cedar, not Webba, was chosen to do a <a href="http://www.fictionalley.org/fictionalleypark/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25239&highlight=Nimbus">modifed presentation</a>, and things went sour. Webba insinuated that Cedar stole her work and that Webba was the only one capable of properly representing Peter at the convention. Cedar implied that Webba was a nutter and a backstabby bitch. Ad infinitum ad nauseum until <a href="http://www.mr-squirrel.org/webba.html">friends got involved</a> (including me, oy!).

Miraculously, it all went away until <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/mollymoon/">Mollymoon</a>, a friend of Cedar's, made <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/mollymoon/65010.html">this post</a> about wanting to be matched up with Webba in a <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/hpbnfdm_lives/">deathmatch</a>. <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/ani_bester/">Ani_Bester</a> jumps in to call Molly a drama queen. Molly is annoyed and <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/mollymoon/69386.html">asks</a> if anyone has link to a saved copy of one of Webba's old rants. Webba decides its time to apologize to Cedar for her behaviour. In Molly's journal.

A puzzling end to months of vague, quasi-wank.
2:39pm: Deathmarch Deathmarch
The Deathmarch (Now at Round LVII.) Years of vicious fighting between supporters of Ron/Hermione and Harry/Hermione. Reliable producer of wank. Now to come to an end?

Well, not before we get some more wank out of it.

Fiction Alley in its infinite wisdom established two threads to collect all anti-ship venom: Can't Stand R/Hr?(Now in Round IV and Can't Stand H/Hr? (Now in Round XV)Threads are, as expected, fairly venomous.

A Deathmarch regular by the name of Kia is upset with this and begins A Petition for the removal of the Can't Stand threads.

Highlights of the first post

The Can't Stand Threads are Responsible for Shipping Wars )

I'm totally unbiased! )

Of course, she may have a point )

A few minutes later, in a completely unrelated turn of events, Barbiefen posts Petition for the closing of the Debate Thread.

The arena is ready, the combatants line up to fight, and much wank ensues. Read more... )
11:40pm: Because some types of gaming require face-to-face contact with other people...
Watch as a goofy Penny Arcade strip about D&D quickly inspires a discussion regarding the personal hygiene of gamers.

It's cute and benign (and there's stuff about text-based gaming in there, too).

EDIT: Fixed link.
