11:02am: w00t, my first wankage...
Okay, there's this Harry Potter message board, in which there are many general discussion boards. In the main GD board, someone posts a picture of seemingly giant spiders. There are many exclamations of surprise about the spiders, as well as a few stories (either urban-legendish or personal spider stories). Someone finally posts a link to actual information on the spiders, in addition to naming the dread horrors (it turns out that they're called sun/camel spiders). Another person posts a different link to more info. And on it goes until the very bottom of the second page of the post, when someone going by the name of TimeTravel_02 repeats something that has already been stated at least once, namely the name and breeding habits of the spiders.

On the next page, someone going by CS makes a sarcastic comment (which is normal, business-as-usual), and the topic goes on to talk about other randomly spider-related stuff. That is, until the TimeTravel_02 person decides to randomly attack CS, in the fourth page, a full page and a half after the original comment. Thus, the beginning of the first flamewar on the relocated Harry's Forums.

TimeTravel_02's post is ignored for two more posts, until one called Skorpion defends CS. Three other veterans of the board come to her rescue before she has a chance to defend herself (on that same page). The flames are continued by TimeTravel_02, with spider-related posts inbetween, followed by an in-depth analysis of the post count and custom titles of the opposing two (namely, TT_02 and CS) from Skorpion. One more spider post, and the flames continue onto the entire fifth page, during which it comes to light that TT_02 has been banned before, and at some point CS quits the fight (or so she says...*dun dun dunnnnn*).

The sixth page is much the same, except TT_02 is banned. There was rejoicing. However, TimeTravel_02 is reincarnated as timetravel_03, who is also banned. S/he returns again as timetravel_04, and CS can't help but to add one more comment. Skorpion suggests ignoring him/her, and two more people disregard this and add their comments (including a somewhat graphic visual from Soldier of the Damned).

On the next page, Soldier of the Damned is congratulated on his imagery, and the flames against TT_0# continue for a wee bit of time until the post finally disentegrates into a mini-discussion of food.

1:34pm: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Racist Fanboy
The background- There's a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie being made. From what I can gather, they seem to have an interesting cast. However, some people have issues.

Mostly, it's issues with Mos Def playing Ford Prefect. With little racist gems ( such as... )
You can note that most of these people haven't actually seen Mos Def in anything, but they're highly offended that he is black and a rapper.
Add in the grammar bitchery and people worrying that Ford will be written as a tech geek and you've got full fandork panic! Somewhere in the boards there's someone commenting on Ford's race, nevermind they haven't read more than ten pages of the first book.

(There's a small pocket of fannish dissent regarding Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent, too, but it's miniscule compared to this. Which means it's itty bitty.)

3:30pm: So, there's a new movie in the works. It's called Brokeback Mountain and stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger as gay cowboy lovers.

As one might well expect, the IMDb boards are spoogy. Besides the obvious OMGNOGAYPEOPLE!!!!, I came across this thread about how gay movies are good but lesbian movies don't count.

Of course there's the rejoinder of "I don't like seeing ANY sex in the movies!" to which venusebony replies that the term homosexual is sexist.

The bad_rpers_suck is a rant community that has less wank than most rant communities (*cough* elfwoodrant *cough*).

But still, it's a rant community, so it's inevitable, right?

Today, ruglia, who calls herself "Maji", posted this gem in which she rails against the evils of Harry Potter RPGs.

She has some points. Unfortunately, they're covered in spooge, so you kind of have to squint to make them out. The basic point: If you don't want to play an ugly Slytherin or a nerd, you SUCK because you're living up to fanon stereotypes.

Also, a quote:

"Now, seriously, when you take into consideration that, in the Harry Potter universe, subcultures don’t seem to exist—therefore, it seems unlikely that “cutting” (a popular activity of teeny gawths that empowers them with “Ba’athwater”, the goddess of eternal stu-fucking-pidity) would be around in the Harry Potter world.
