1:19pm: F_W. We mock. That's it.
Over the last day or so, as I've watched all this, the same thought has kept occuring to me.

"Hey, guys. You DO realise that if all this fallout was going on over a HP message board, we'd be sitting there and mocking and telling the people involved to get a life. Right?"

Because that's what F_W's about. We mock people who are too involved in their fandom, right?

And, sure, it went down. But it's been down before and we trucked on. Within hours, we had a backup comm. Within a few more, we had F_W proper back. But you'd still think that the world had ended in the meantime, or that this was the most important thing in the world. If you need more proof that people are taking all of this too seriously, there you go.

Because over on a messageboard dedicated to 80's pop culture, sometrollbody posted a big list of reasons why the 80's sucked, quoted directly from their website.

What follows includes nitpicking about the career highlights of Meatloaf, argument over whether the troll is a troll or not, discussion of the relative entertainment value of cheese, and much eye rolling.

Then, on page two, the troll admits that s/h/it is only pulling everybody's chains because s/h/it saw a website dissing the 90's and got mad because the 90's were s/h/it's favourite decade. Further exploration of the website demonstrates that it's maker (who now seems to not be the same person as the troll) hates everything, not just the 80's. But nobody really cares, as they're all too busy either defending the 80's or else going, "hello, we're being trolled, stop feeding the troll", and generally agreeing with each other.

On page 3 somebody says the 1860's were the worst decade ever. As for that being on the same thread as a bunch of people going: "don't diss the 80's if you didn't live through them!" all I can say is 'talk to the username.'

Over on the Talkin' Broadway message boards a troll poster named DebbieO apparently saw Stephen Sondheims show Assassins, which is about everyone who has ever tried to assassinate the president of the United States.

She announces that Everyone involved with Assassins should be tried for treason.
