2:32pm: icons + bikini + anime = miniwank!
I like icons. I like to look at them, collect them (I never use half the ones I have ...) ... so I belong to a lot of icon comms over at LJ. They do not usually bring the wank. I haven't even seen a "CREDIT ME DAMN YOUZ!" wank in months.
So you can imagine my surprise when I find "
I'm LEAVING wahwahwah" at the top of my icon-flist. Being as all I do is look at the pretty, I have NO idea what's going on, and I hit the comments. Turns out, the OP (
wesangel) is squicked because
vanessa_ayukawa posted some "kinda cute, kinda hardcore" icon bases. But the real wank hits the fan when
zero_butterfly refuses to agree with the OP when she said they were "very offensive". (I spent 10 minutes just looking for the post with the so-called "offensive" icons to begin with @.@)
Now
wesangel has
stormed off in a huff, and the usual sentiments are emerging rapidly. "If you don't like it, don't look," "there's been worse already," etc. ad nauseum. So far, everyone thinks she's a nut.
ETA: Despite the comments being deleted on the first link, the wank is still going on the second one AND in six or seven posts in
wesangel. Does she ever shut up? Plus, bonus: she and her husband just celebrated their 1 month anniversary -- with gifts of
Sailormoon. Get out of my fandom, girl!
2:37pm: MST3K LJ comm Wank!
Granted, this fandom's kerfuffles are few and far between (apart from the occasional Joel v. Mike debates and the wanksplosion not too long ago involving Mike's political and religious leanings), but eh, I'm amused enough by it to post.
sylvea posts in
mst3k about how
she has created a new community for MST3K fen. It's like this community, only smaller! So you can join it if you want because it's new. And
sparkly. Or just encourages the ripping out of eyeballs.
The community sighs a collective "meh," questioning the creation of a new community when the current one serves the purpose just fine. Considering the show was cancelled around 5 years ago, I'm inclined to agree. There's no real need to fragment a dwindling fandom, is there?
OP
gets snippy:
I never said you HAD to join my community. Why did I make it? 'cause I love MST3K and I wanted to make my owm community, but I think you people have just KILLED my love for it. Go to hell. So, because she had a bad run-in with some of the snarkier Misties (and MST3K is all about the snark), she now hates the show she once adored. Muh?
OP makes the obligatory
"you're all mean and I'm leaving" post, claiming to have cried for three hours because of the responses to her first post.
Again, the comm responds with a collective: "Meh."
I love my fandom.
5:58pm: LJDrama.org is hardly immune. Duh.
Fandom_Wank has its own fandom. There are other places like it--communities which point out wanktastic escapades in online journals across the Internet--and one of these places is
LJDrama.org.
LJDrama is a private blog. It's not for the viewers, by the viewers, or even cares about its viewers. This really isn't a secret, but the wank starts to fly when too many "shitty drama entries" get put up. Recently on Livejournal there was a wave of bannings centered around the Something Awful LJ community going out and harassing--who else?--the LJ furries. The LJ furries retaliate; LJ Abuse establishes impromptu zero-tolerance for this situation and bans anyone involved, even if they were merely members of the SA LJ community and hadn't actively participated in anything.
LJDrama.org, which always wants to stick it to The Man (LJ Abuse/Brad/whomever) whenever a rash of bannings occur,
post about the issue incessantly. Soon the hilarity simplifies down to "furries and LJ Abuse and whiners, oh my" and LJDrama.org-readers realize that this isn't funny anymore.
What does that mean, then? There are existing conditions for a 100% chance of WANK. LJDrama.org proceeds to eat itself from the inside out. The following is drawn from the most recent post, which is
insanely long.
( Since I cannot get links to specific comments, here's a modest abridgement: )ETA: The illustrious voice-mail (that is related to the original poster's outlined grievances)
can be listened to here. You don't really have to know what's going on to enjoy it. Link provided by a kind anonymouse with the giant blue text no one can miss.
Highlights include: "S-A-L-J. It's not 'sahl-jeh' like some shitheads would call it. It's S-A-L-J." ~ "What did Jesus ever do to you, Brad?" ~ "You're seriously hindering my attempts at becoming popular on the Internet." ~ "I'd rather get fucked by Futhman than get fucked by a furry."
(Thanks for the correction on the last quote, guys. The alliteration threw me off.)
