This is quite old, but I don't think I've seen it on FW before...

Buffy Studies, is, as everyone knows, a serious academic discipline. But when fandom and academia collide, the results can be mighty splodgy.

Bluntinstrument.org.uk is a fansite dedicated to Christophe Beck, the composer of, among other things, BtVS. An anonymouse submits a report on the first Buffy Studies conference, focusing on the two music panels. The anonymouse criticises the first panel, calling the session "academically ... disappointing - to the more intelligent members of the audience at any rate", accuses one of the presenters of Teh Plagirism, and speculates that "perhaps she was expecting the event to have been more along the lines of a fan convention than an academic research conference, but her work really was out of place at the latter."

Academic A is first off the mark with, "I ... am a musicologist and a senior lecturer in music, and the paper is thoroughly grounded in theory, despite the writer's implication that it wasn't."

Academic B, the one criticised for reportedly not knowing the difference between a fan convention and an academic conference, also responds; the essence of her reply can be summed up with, "My work is enjoyed by both waitresses and college professors" < /Anne Rice>.

A sockpuppet random academic also in the audience during the presentations takes great offence to the anon reviewer's insinuation that the members of the audience were unintellegent, and chimes in with, "As a senior lecture, I clearly regard myself as an intelligent academic and I am one who has particular research interests in this field."

Academic C attempts to defend his colleague from Teh Plagirism accusation, but does so in a curiously backhanded manner, before dismissing her work as mere "useful groundwork", and summing up the whole conference as not "the kind of conference where one would necessarily expect to encounter profound, groundbreaking research." He goes on to dispute the sockpuppet's "Senior Lecture"'s claim to be all that intelligent.

Teh alleged Plagirist comes back two months later: "Apologies for the delay in replying as I was in San Juan, Puerto Rico, researching in various popular music archives for the last three months." After defending her use of somebody else's idea, and using equipment problems and health issues to explain her responses to the audience's questions, she asserts that, "Whilst some in the audience may have felt patronised by listening to something they could have delivered ... they didn't."

Anon attacks - check! Teh Plagirism - check! Accusations of being a stupidhead - check! Sockpuppets - check! Incessant flashing of credentials - check! Mmmm, AcademicWank...

Many of us at F_W love to hate Adele Sessler, the quasi-decent artist with an ego the size of Alaska. We all know that she's vanitypublished a book that's just a rehash of her old Zelda Fanfics.

Now, it would seem that one of her mindless fans has written fanfic about her "Wars of Avenon" crap which she posts on her website.

Now, on the message board (sorry, you'll have to register to see the "Wars of Avenon" forum) this wanna-be Adele fanboi posts asking for feedback on his latest chapter, and he states:
"I didn't want to use Adele's characters too much, the fact that they stayed in that hideout for much of the book felt a little restraining, which would have prevented me from explaining the one thing that actually bugged me during the book"

Which causes Ms. Adele to ask an annoyed question and then a few posts below it she tries to explain her very contrived and retarded storyline.

8:44pm: More Usagi Kou is batshit stuff. (By the way, I love the fact that I can say "batshit" in this comm without worrying about kiddies seeing it and whatever.)

Harkua_kou and Michiru_kou and possibly some other people have made posts about it. Summary of the gigantic amount of information: Usagi Kou is a psycho Usagi Kou came to stay with some people, didn't pay them rent, acted like a bitch, etc. etc. See Harkua_kou's journal for entertaining pictures and Michiru_kou's journal for a very very very detailed explanation. Also, now there is a community called kou_klan_anon. Apparently it is intended to be a support group rather than a bash fest. We'll see how long that lasts.

Apparently other people have made entries regarding this too, but I dunno how to even begin hunting them all down. Calling all wank detectives? Anyone want to read through all of michiru_kou and haruka_kou's buddy lists?

EDIT: And michiru_kou, if you are reading this, there are many, many F_Wers who would commit various crimes and other painful acts or be your sex slaves if you would let us live in your house for $150 a month.

Return of the edit: lindentree has provided a link to Usagi Kou's "add me" entry on her LJ, where people are now bashing her to her face. You know you want to click me. The bashing starts about 3/4ths of the way down with kozinu.

This is the last one, I swear: Some people asked me to link this one. It's a comment in Michi's journal and a separate post from the Kusanagi that was mentioned somewhere in the dark depths of the wank. Lesson from this wank: if practically everyone on teh intranets thinks someone is bugfuck, it's probably cause they are!

Also, I feel all grown up now. I think this is the first wank I've posted that's gone over 100 400 comments. (Maybe I should turn off comment notification...I really should...)

Seems that ygo_icons has its very own troll.

Members of the comm are unamused. They also request that the mods actually, y'know, moderate, but alas, the mod, singular, is away at college.

Then one of the owners of the site our troll direct-linked from shows up. Much sarcasm ensues, including the poster's suggestion that the OP "Go rape someone. That'll get you the attention you want. Or go cut yourself. That's what most emo kids do these days."

The next day, ickle trollikins shows up again. Now with added profanity!

The jury's still out on whether the OP is terminally bored, terminally stupid, terminally attention-deprived, or some combination of the three.

I won't employ expletives cos even that won't get across how angry I am at some of the trash I've seen in the last couple of days.

This is a fairly self-contained (and self-explanatory) wank, but it bred 59 comments ion half-an-hour. I had a suspicion this would happen when lj-literate fangirls started to tread in the world of old-school flame-keepers. It's like LOTR all over again.
