9:40pm: War is peace. Love is hate. Canon is fanon.
My first reported wank! Thanks to Aya (whose JF name I don't know) for directing me to it.
Over on
fruits_basket,
kouri_shien asks for spoilers about Rin and Haru's relationship beyond book eight.
meli_p replies,
"Haru/Yuki is purely cannon, unfortunately. ;_; "
kouri_shien's reply is only to mourn the lack of yaoi, without asking what
meli_p meant by calling a nonexistant romantic relationship "cannon". No wank so far.
However,
meli_p then repeats her mistake by saying, "It's sad. All the gay we wanted, in the end.. it's all proven canon." Buh? It's
possible she just got "canon" and "fanon" mixed up, since they are only one letter off from each other . . . a few lines down,
kireisarah speaks up with, "I think you mean 'fanon.' And o noes!!1"
The wank begins when
meli_p replies,
"I think I don't."In a different subthread,
linachu points out again that
fanon is very, very different than canon.
meli_p retorts, "Personal opinion, I think that pairing is canon. I know the difference, thanks." When it's pointed out that Haru/Yuki is more fanon than canon, she argues, "No, Haru/Rin is
the storyline."
meliachu wins the thread for
her answer, "So... in other words, you're saying that if you want a pairing to be canon, then it is? Does that mean that if I decide I wanted to say that Hitler/George Washington were a real pairing, it would be true?"
The rest of the thread has its interesting moments too . . .
