: Pete Doherty; lost poet maverick non-tourist of his generation!
Over at the libertines.org forum, it usually isn't a great idea to wander in and post 'X is so much more talented than Pete!' as your first post.
Geoffrey Archer decides to do exactly that, however, announcing 'Patrick Wolf is far more deserving of your fanaticism than Peter!'.
A thread featuring such gems as "when have nme ever called peter a "tragic genius" or the next cobain/hendrix? i dont think they ever have." and this personal favourite of mine:
"Wolf is good. Like the album, seen him live. I'm from cornwall, we need someone to talk to us, someone who redeems us and our land. We have to break through, someone counter the level of cultural misrepresentation experienced by Dubllin pre-Joyce, Glasgow pre-Alasdair Gray and James Kelman and the rest of the post colonial world pre-their artists of cultural redemption/resistance. This is serious stuff. Look what Soyinka did for Nigeria. We need imaginitve life for Cornwall, for all. I like Patrick Wolf but his music is riven with all the oppresive cliches of a day tripper. Never be a tourist. From the moment he threw himself into eternity Pete Doherty banned himself from tourism."
