: HP Fandom: How I Love Thee
Several days ago,
themostepotente posts an entry about honesty in fandom. A number of people become concerned that agewank has begun anew, but most folks realize something much better is afoot, and start making popcorn, because they know it's probably about this:
A new author,
scramasaxx, has appeared, and has everyone convinced he is a 30-something-year-old bisexual male who had entered fandom after his gay lover of six years kicked the bucket. He posts good enough fic that he gets invited to one of those communities of good HP writers. He posts a couple of stories, one of which gets the editor's pick of the day mention at Hogwarts Today, although not everyone thinks these fics are the best thing ever.
Quietly, suspicion grows -- partially because of the fact he actually uses the term "gay lover," partially because, you know, there's only half a dozen guys in this fandom anyway. There's also, as my mouse tells me, this: "his posts in his journal were always very enthusiastic and flamboyant. and he liked to use 'le' (he fancied himself french or something)." All this suspicion, actually, is what lead to the lead-off post here from
themostepotente.
So, right, he was apparently ripping off
bookofjude's style. Poorly.
Finally, today, the shit hits the fan, and it comes out that
scramasaxx is really
cravache, who, of course, is a 25-ish female, not a 30-ish bisexual male.
scramasaxx confesses.
Numerous people express their displeasure.
Extra butter on mine, please!
ETA: Wow. So, there's been LOTS of subsidiary spooge on this one, but this may take the cake:
gala_apples has not only decided that the indefensible lies are defensible, but she's decided to call the entire membership of
pornish_pixies whores in the process. Because, you know, they didn't think
cravache or her lame-ass sock puppet were Worthy.
ETA II: Plagiarism allegations!
ETA III: No, no, it's the fault of the rec communities! (much amusement within)
