8:08am: HP: All your Snarry archives are belong to us!
There's this Snarry archive called Detention, right?

A former mod, [info]biting_moopie, makes a post about what's been going on lately with the archive and why she's no longer affiliated with it. [info]atrata (another former mod) makes a post also, making a similar statement and linking to Moopie's post for clarification.

[info]individum, who is the archive owner (and who appears to have deleted her LJ as a result of prior wank involving the archive -- I've no clue what that's about), gets wind of this and posts an indignant rebuttal to snarry_detention (the LJ community affiliated with the archive) using the mod journal.

Apparently, she's been MIA from the site and she thinks this is perfectly fine because it's her archive and she'll do with it what she pleases. Among other things, she accuses the former mods of lying about their levels of involvement since her break began. However, there are screencaps that suggest otherwise.

Bonus mice: there's this mouse called "Alexandra Dane" who supports the former mods and thinks Page is out of line and then there's this other mouse called "Al" who keeps following Alexandra Dane around and telling her to STFU. It's kind of cute.

ETA: Alexandra Dane's stories have been deleted from the archive, too.

ETA2: Detention is now CLOSED, and it's all fandom_wank's FAULT! I'm taking my TOYS and LEAVING!!1one!1 >:0!1

ETA3: BUT I AM NOT LEAVING UNTIL I GET THE LAST WORD ON EVERYTHING!!11!!eleventy!11

2:13pm: Narnia Wank
Over at Pandagon, Amanda Marcotte posts an entry titled How enchanting are the Chronicles of Narnia?

I was thinking about this because of the feeding frenzy of free publicity for Disney's live action adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, another dead Jeebus movie, but this one a little more palatable than the snuff-flick-masquerading-as-religious-art-that-shall-not-be-named. I'm of two minds on this film--on one hand, I can understand the Christian right's desperation to have the same fucking story told in a whole new way, because rereading the Bible over and over, especially if you stick mostly to the one or two passages that can be construed as anti-gay, can get sort of boring. On the other hand, they should feel a little guilty, don't you think, about lavishing so much attention on a book and a movie that's basic premise is a newer, more fun version of the Greatest Story Ever Told.

Things are pretty calm, despite Mnemosyne's outburst. )

And then Amanda posts a follow-up that says

As for the Narnia post, c'mon now, y'all. Do I have to like the books in order to get a pass? Am I free to dislike Tolkien?

Update: I am sorry I was flip about something people are clearly touchy about. But unfortunately the ugly truth is that lovely as Narnia is, Lewis' plot kind of sucks, the ascendency to royalty is boring, and the theology just isn't all that. But hey, I wasn't ever the hugest fantasy fan, so hate away.

And Mnemosyne gets defensive )

Josh Jasper is here to tell us the difference between personal taste and just plain bad. )

Mnemosyne pulls out the Glove of Ignorance and slaps Amanda with it )

And then people start swapping titles of their favorite children's books.

ETA: Heh, forgot the link to the main wank.
ETA2: Because seven hours later, I notice I twice gave Mnemosyne an extra "e".
2:51pm: Apprentice wank
Donald Trump is about to pick his fourth Apprentice, and he can choose between a white chick (who has lost every time she's led a project) and a black guy (who has won every time he's been project manager). [info]al_absurdo makes a post to the LJ Apprentice comm saying that Unless Randall really messes up, this one's in the bag. Even if Randall and Rebecca's record were the same, Randall would still be advantaged...Being black is an advantage this year. Several people object.

[info]al_absurdo flips his lid and invokes the capslock of RAGE against anyone saying that his comment was racist, since he's black and therefore immune. Or something.

(what is this, racewanks in fandom month?)

ETA: Fourth apprentice, not fifth.
9:56pm: McCaffrey Fandom's Been Quiet A While
It's good to know that over on The New Kitchen Table things are still as wanky as ever.

Every now and then I wander over for a poke around. Today I am greeted by this.

An extremely important situation has developed within the AMCF Host and Technical community.

Scott, the Technician, has issued the Host Team an ultimatum. He handed in his resignation, giving us 24 hours to either change his mind or he is walking. With him, he has stated, will go the VBulletin License and the Domain License, which were turned over to him, and put in his name by the previous Administration. (note: the 24 hrs is over as of 11 A.M. GMT on December 6, 2005)

This means two things: 1) that Scott would be Stealing the site and 2) is that Scott would own the site, for all intents and purposes, with control over all aspects of the Bulletin Board and associated functions.

The Host Team has unsuccessfully tried to retrieve both licenses over the past several months to ensure the continued site operation.

While we know that Scott has given many hours to the site maintainence, there have also been many unauthorized actions taken without the Host Teams' knowledge and approval, as well as unnecessary backroom changes and adjustments. He also has appeared to dedicate himself to frustrating and overriding many Host Team decisions and requirements to perform their responsibilities to the site.

As you, AMCF members, are the "real" site owners, through your donations and continued support, it is only right that you are aware of this situation.

At approximately 2 A.M. GMT, December 6, 2005, Scott's resignation was accepted by the Host Team, the site database was backed up, and Scott was removed from all Technical, Administrative and Moderator functions of the site. We have reserved a new domain under the name of www.annemccaffreyfans.net . It is not currently set up, but is available for backup purposes.

If necessary, a forum will be created in A Meeting of the Minds for us to discuss the site's future. Guests will be permitted to post in this forum, so registration will not be necessary. We ask that this privilege NOT be abused, and that respect for Cheryl's site be maintained at all times. We will keep you posted about this, if we can, should it need to be done. If you find you cannot access the site, please check the MoM forum. We will do our utmost to keep members informed should anything go wrong, but it may not be possible to notify every member.

Huh, thinks I. Odd, thinks I. I wants more information, thinks I.

So I prod a bit and fiind this More drama! Yay!

And here comes the lynch party! (Because of course the best way to deal with owner politics is lynch parties.)

(Of course the isn't the first owner kerfuffle though that got cleared up

ETA:- Hosts close the thread with the message that they have a new license. Members are not happy. They want blood. The wank goes on.
