4:06am: DANNY fandom wank!
What do you mean you are not into DANNY fandom?

chancery_stone, author of DANNY, appeared on my flist announcing her latest lj entry in wuthering and sistersbronte, because it discusses Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, and DANNY.
I do most certainly not begrudge her that, since I was interested in what she had to say about these novels.
I was, however, even more interested in what she had to say in her userinfo:

The fan comm mod, excuse me, the 'fan' comm mod has this to say in an open post:

Apparently several new lj users have expressed the wish to discuss DANNY, since the community, which so far has five members, is locked.
Meet valentinotango, bronte_babe, jeff_peters, poisondripper, jodie0992 and jillandjodie.


Stone heavily denies that she has anything to do with the sockpuppets dramatic increase of DANNY fans, in her rant against the locking ( Why the fuck would I go to the effort of pretending to be someone else, actually making up a journal, to find out what they say?), although she obviously learned about the unpleasant screening process behind closed doors, as she described in her Farewell To The Famous Five.

I can give you the beginning of the drama.

9:28pm: Japanese pop wank!
First time doing a wank report—hope I did it all right. Following a link left by two anonymice over at wank_report, I have stumbled upon a gem of a wanking fandom. Apparently, it’s known as Johnny’s Jimusho—JE for short. And let me introduce you to three apparently very prolific members of the fandom: capt_koki, noesunexito, and jankenpwned.

10:33pm: From two mousies on wank_report.

indefatigable42 posts an "Etymology of Slash" essay on fanficrants, explaining that slash has nothing to do with canon or non-canon relationships, because it's all about teh ghey.

It's all cool for a while. A few people express annoyance about the idea of it meaning only non-canon relationships, and partly_bouncy argues a few of the more meaningless points, but it's all cool until. . .

Edit to put this at the top: My definition of gay is not male boinks male so male is gay. My definition of gay involves a person's own defined identity, sexual preference, embracing of a label and belonging to a certain community. Who you're boinking is not a part of that definition. Please realize that as you read the thing below. If you define gay as boinking, you're obviously going to find this whole thing flawed. And as a fan historian, I have not seen evidence that most of the community defined boinking as defining a person as gay.

Early slash was not homosexual. It was not gay. The etymology of the term in no way implies a gay or homosexual connection. I wish people would not imply that. Please stop. Fan fiction history and terminology has enough problems with the well-meaning fan disseminating misinformation.

Slash and GLBT culture did not meet really for the first time until the Xena fandom. They finally met because Xena had a lot of lesbian fans writing lesbian stories, complete with discussions regarding things like butch/femme dynamics.

If slash had been about gayness, it likely would have not taken off. It would have been seen as really damaging, really challenging and offensive because of the urge to push an agenda.

It also gets a mention in metafandom.

11:40pm: Just a little follow up wank
Just a little follow up to the KKM wank reported here

The owner kaitou-marina makes a Mod Post in response to complaints on her respond time to the big blow-up and why she didn't hire more mods when some-one had requested it months ago(the request in question was some-one unknown to the owner asking to become a mod, no word of if said person included why they felt the need for another mod) She also asks why no-one contacted her when there were problems as that's pretty much how things were in the past. Mod then proposes ideas to help keep the comm calm in the future.

People then bitch that since she's the mod she should always be watching the comm for trouble and things get a little wanky.
