9:47am: Suikoden LJ RPG Wank
Been awhile since we heard from the Suikoden camp (small as they may be) and then a mouse-friend pointed this out:

There is an LJ RPG called [info]suiko_rpg as far as LJ-based Suikoden RPGs go, it's the biggest and also the most out of character. But that's neither here nor there...

Seems a few days ago, [info]quatrina posted a crazy flame laced rant about how there are too many plots and she's been around longer than most and she's going to do her plot no matter what!!!

The denizens agree and disgree and its civil for the most part...

Then along comes [info]chronomadic who isn't even part of the RPG but can't help to voice his/her opinion.... Complete with paint cartoon

People go nuts.
10:13am: The World Cup brings out the Elite Monsters in them...
http://community.livejournal.com/footballslash/445466.html

[info]footballslash gets closed for new members while the World Cup still lasts, because If you are serious about joining the community now, you'll be just as serious next week.

People get pissed:

like [info]dork_elf:
These folks are enthusiastic and joyful about footballslash in a way that, frankly, most of the continuous membership isn't anymore. How refreshing is it to have people around who want to share in the things we enjoy, who want to meet new folks, and aren't looking down on people. The whole 'you're not a real fan' thing is no fun to be on the receiving end

Same user, another comment:
We're the only community for it, and we have a small window of opportunity to cultivate a good relationship with new fans. Telling them 'cross your legs until WE think you've proven your interest' may not kill their interest in football or slash, but I know it would hve killed my interest in this community when I was new.

[info]sapphireblue88 is affected by the new rule and comments too:
when I first read this message, I thought of the Portugal/Netherlands match where the ref just lost control of the game. Closing off membership is like giving out a red card for a dive in the midfield; it accomplishes nothing and is just frustrating.

That one gets a replay by moderator [info]rwrockdj that would get a red card too, and does not help at all
It's not about annoyance. We deal with things that annoy us all the time, but we will not stand for offensive and insulting behavior.
11:25am: Japanese fashion wank
Over in [info]fruits, a community dedicated to fangirling Japanese fashion, [info]ashleyeatworld posts a few pictures of herself in what I can only assume is Japanese street fashion, but I'll have to take her word for it. The outfit consists of ribbon, approximately one square foot of black cloth, some leopard print, and pink legwarmers.

At first everybody loves it. The girl has a hot bod and she looks like she can pull it off, right? Wrong!

[info]artemischild I really don't mean this in a bitchy way, but I think your outfit is kind of trashy...You seem like a cool person, and it would really suck for people to hate you simply because of whay you're wearing. (It's always much, much more fun to make them hate you because you tell them/prove to them that they're closed-minded, pretentious, hypocritical, and not the saint that they make themselves out to be.)

[info]thegirl_sarah are you a hooker?

[info]sacredarrow Um...right. Just no. What was said above is right, it is quite trashy. And I rather don't think it's right at all.

[info]60secondstars Also, the question I have to ask you is: Would you go out in public like this? I mean, on a daily basis?

Small, but there's room to grow.
11:58am: "It's not about you it's about the fandom!"
Over on FFR, [info]overlord_mordax posts a rant (well, obviously) that can summed up in a few key sentences:

"I find authors who refuse to allow fanfiction to be written, frankly, offensive. It is an insult to your fanbase, it is an insult to the history of narrative, and it is an insult to the authors own skill... Yes, I think that fanfiction authors are the bards of our time, wandering between the colonies of the internet, telling their stories paid only in coins of praise tossed into their hats... All stories are fanfiction, permutations of the natural narrative forces that flow within our souls...In my mind there is only one honest reason an author can give for disallowing fanfiction involving their characters, [sic] They’re afraid. Afraid that their fans can write better stories than they can, that their fans know the characters better than their canon authors do, can bring them to life in prose in ways that would turn the author green with envy."

Okay, so I added some simply because they were hilarious. You got me.

But what is FFR's reaction? Pretty tame, actually, even with hilarious comments like this. Hey, it's possible. The Wachowskis didn't steal everything from Sophie Stewart. But I'm not saying you shouldn't read the FFR post, because it's completely worth it. Tl;dr in parts, but there are numbered lists!

So where's the wank? Why, it's on our very own [info]fandom_discuss! Boom.

Responses include, "no harm, no foul!" "The law can fuck off," "You don't deserve to have fans if you don't let them write fanfiction!," "The laws are stupid," ""What they don't know won't hurt them!" and many, many instances of "I don't like Anne Rice this person, so I don't care what they say anyway! D:<" A lot of people bring up buttsex, because apparently that's why some authors don't like fanfiction or something, and there should be a buttsex law, I'm telling you.

Also, writers should not have free time, even if that free time includes hanging out with those fans of yours. And [info]pyratejenni is everywhere, like the love child of the Energizer Bunny and Nightcrawler. "Mark my words, fandom!" and I couldn't even follow this conversation.

The most hilarious part of this entire report? [info]overlord_mordax has been wanked before. For hating on Terry Pratchett for being "anti-story" in his Discworld Witch books, most of which are rewrites of fables whose messages Pratchett's witches destroy. Either the irony is hot and sexy, or you got punk'd, FFR and [info]fandom_discuss.

Yes, [info]overlord_mordax is here. Don't worry, you can still make fun of her!
