3:54pm: Lemmings in Fandom SGA
There are some changes slated for the uber-popular televisions series Stargate: Atlantis.

Spoilery information can be found here and here.

Heck, just go to the main page of gateworld.net to get the idea.

Fans get a little...well, upset about the various changes on fan forums, as predicted by certain actors a couple of months ago. This happens right?

Change on shows, especially one with characters that people passionately love or hate, brings out the fandom hysteria (and sometimes the funny)

Joseph Mallozzi, producer of SGA calls fans lemmings...well, by implication, maybe the context is stretched a little:

From his blog (does everyone on this show have a blog?)

I considered joining some online fan forum and joining the chorus blaming the producers for her sudden disappearance, that episode with the singing, and my dog’s eye condition - but ultimately decided against it because I realized it would only make me sound like a shrill and ill-informed lemming. Still, it was tempting. There’s something strangely comforting and delusively empowering about chiming in with an anonymous mob, albeit one that lacks any true insight into the reality of a situation.

So the lemmings, err fans, get a little uptight.

And I know finding wank on the Gateworld forums is like shooting fish in a small container thing..but Enjoy

ETA: the other person with my name on the forum, not me, although I'm sure she's fantastic, as anyone with that name aught to be
11:25pm: This past weekend in the Boston area was the SF con Arisia. I should add that Arisia's very existence is due to a giant inter-fan fight from the 1970s, which had F_W existed back then, would have had a MONSTER entry. This is not relevant, a)I just really enjoy that I've yet to hear the same story twice about its origins and b)it tells you that the folks in the area enjoy arguing. I would also like to add that I was on staff this year, and as a result, saw NOTHING of the actual con this year, so I haven't a clue about the incident in question. Onto the wank. And it's a doubleshot of ninjas and skanks.

~~Ninjas~~

The Hygiene Ninja is a regular attendee of Arisia and a few other cons in the area. He dresses like a ninja and hands people sample-sized products with the label "Stop and think-do you stink? Love The Hygiene Ninja".

This year, someone on staff as a joke, apparently, sicced him on someone. And someone else saw.

And proceeded to tl:dr all over the Arisia LJ comm.

Comments so far have ranged from "you're right! He IS just like those mean boys in high school!" to "dude, take the joke" and "Doesn't he just use it as an opportunity to hit on girls?"

In conclusion, I got a bar of soap from him last year when I was sweaty from slaving over a hot oven all con, and I USED IT. It was awesome.

ETA: The Ninja quits.

~~Skanks!~~

At the con, one of the things I did see were the Skanks in Space posters on the party walls. Like many, I assumed that meant it was one of the many open parties.

But it wasn't. And people are STILL not happy about it.Oh, and when you put up a post about a specific issue and then it gets linked so you get into an argument with someone that makes you feel dumb? Laugh it off by calling it an experiment in rhetoric! That TOTALLY works.
