2:05pm: Neener neener you selfish hoarding bastard!
They Might Be Giants, as some of you may know, are a low-key nerd-rock band. Songs they've done include "Birdhouse in Your Soul", Malcolm in the Middle theme "Boss of Me" and two songs immortalized in Tiny Toons, "Particle Man" and "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)".

Back in 1999, TMBG started playing a new song, "Thunderbird" at their live shows. It was well-received, but didn't appear on an album until 2004's The Spine. That version has a somewhat different arrangement from the live version and some fans were disappointed. However, in 2002 one well-known TMBG fan, TDK, was able to get his hands on a rare CD which included a demo recording of "Thunderbird" that more resembled the live version. Shortly after his big purchase, the two Johns of TMBG asked him not to share any of the recordings on that CD to anyone. So he hasn't. Some people in fandom hate him for it, since he's shared hard-to-find music before.

(Note: apparently TDK has a reputation of collecting rare and sundry TMBG memorabilia and has gone to well over a hundred shows. In TMBG fandom he's been known to brag about his collection and how much some if it has cost. Fandom opinion seems to be split between "He's a nice guy!" and "What a bigheaded bastard.")

Fast-forward to February 25th, 2007! So someone else was able to find a copy of the "Thunderbird" demo, and a video appears on youtube with the song... as well as a diatribe against TDK and his selfish, hoarding ways. Apparently this video was made to "put him in his place." It is then posted (hello troll!) to LJ's TMBG community.

Reactions are mixed.

And finally, TDK's response: bite me.

Smallish, and I doubt it'll get any bigger, but still amusing.

[edit: Here's a bit more information on the matter. It also contains a yousendit to the file in question! Props to poisonyoulove.]
Current Mood: Mildly Amused
11:04pm: Can We Have Elf-Wank without LotR? Answer: Apparently.
In [info]girl_gamers, [info]project_jeni shares with the group her St. Patrick's Day/WoW tee-shirts, featuring the game's newest race, the Blood Elves, and the logo Kiss Me, I'm Elvish! Hey, I'm the biggest folkloristic morphology geek ever (as evidenced by the fact that I even know what the hell "folkloristic morphology" is), and while the shirts are not exactly folklore-friendly, I still want one.

Two comments in, [info]omnissiah appears, wondering what the hell this has to do with St. Patrick's Day. People gently try to explain the pun, but [info]omnissiah stubbornly refuses to yield:

I've never known of Elves being considered of Irish descent in any of the games I've played. Mainly because elves are of German descent and most games follow the Tolkien style of mythology, which still doesn't render them as Irish.

People try to move on, but [info]omnissiah continues to pop up with his/her authoritive knowledge of all things Irish/Elvish.

Slowing down now, but the wank is rich.
