9:04am: Each brand new day is another opportunity for John Byrne to be a crazy asshole.
Found via CBR's Lying in the Gutters.

Over at the Byrne boards, member John Wyatt makes a post in their One More Day thread.

"I have all sorts of new comments to make about the past page of comments on this thread...but right now I just don't have them in me.

Right now I want to make a comment about those that are saying how terrible that Peter would make a deal of any kind with Mephisto, even for Aunt May's life.

At 6:20 this morning I got a phone call. A bad one that I have been waiting for. My mother passed today.

I wish Mephisto would show up in real life. I am just some guy. I always looked at the charachter of Peter Parker much the same way. I really do understand right now what someone would do to have just One More Day. So I DO understand that part of the story.
"

People express their sympathies until Byrne shows up with: "No. Sorry, but no. I fully appreciate how much "trouble" I will get into for this, but no. I cannot let this pass without comment.

Using the only hours past death of your own mother to make a point about a comicbook story?

There are not sufficient words in the English language to properly express my disgust.
"

And they're off with recollections of past internet psuecides, questions of getting the devil to revive your dead family members, and if Byrne was rude. A fan warns Byrne that his comment may affect the sales of a new work he has coming out, and then it's time for, "Is Byrne just off his rocker or off his rocker and a bad writer?" Byrne submits many lovely example of crazy, constructed like mental magnetic poetry put together by an intelligent monkey.

A fine example: "3 lines tell 3 stories (none of these are me calling you names)

"Anal boy"

"Fuckface"

"then you are a complete asshole"

••

Out of context, like so many of the "Bad Byrne Stories"? Indeed they do.

But probably not the one you want.
"

After which the discussion devolves into if these are sentences or not.

There's even possibly facetious Godwin's! "Chad, you may laugh, but aside for a few minor differences, this board is exactly like Nazi Germany in 1935."

We wrap up with arguing over if a guy who printed out condolences for a forum member from members and delivered them at his relative's funeral is "the Anti-Byrne, immortalized for His One Good Deed."
9:05am: Writing fanfic=gay marriage
Moved from clairvoyantwank, with a couple of additions.

It starts off when [info]lady_peyton's response to The Organisation for Transformative Works, or OTW, is linked to [info]metafandom.

Then [info]elfwreck appears here, to make a comparison between the rights of gay people to get married and fanfic writers to publish fics on the internet. Many of the commentors are...rather bemused.

(Note: I did comment on this entry, but I didn't say anything to Elfwreck and I don't think I was being wanky.)

Later on, [info]elfwreck pops up on Insanejournal's meta_roundup community, with her...you guessed it,'Fanfic is like gay marriage' meta. Some agree; others (such as [info]aucta_sinistra) politely disagree.

ETA: Bahleeted and replaced by this message at both her Insanejournal and Livejournal. However, most of the wank is on other people's journals.

[info]limyaael mentions in the comments to the [info]clairvoyantwank report that [info]elfwreck had appeared from nowhere in her Journalfen to comment all over an anti-OTW post, which prompts [info]pyratejenni to call [info]elfwreck the new Heidipatrol for OTW.

Then [info]partly_bouncy appears in the [info]metafandom comments with links to both [info]elfwreck lj's post (ah, the joys of x-posting) and [info]liz_marcs, who is not happy with [info]elfwreck. [info]elfwreck appears in the comments, and the teal deer spooge erupts.

Edit: [info]elfwreck appears in the comments here.
12:56pm: Same old story..
Janice Turner at The Times: Xbox is crack for kids

Commenters: GDIAF!

Comments include:You're like those crackpot Victorian busybodies who insisted that these newfangled "novels" were rotting children's brains, sitting hunched over indoors all day when they could be out climbing trees and gamboling gaily over fields and streams. Or doing the productive labour that befits their class.

Janice, perhaps you and a Florida Lawyer by the name of Jack Thompson should go start a game haters club.

Quite enjoyable.
2:32pm: Smoking at The Little Mermaid? SAY IT AIN'T SO!
Of the many shows currently playing on Broadway, one of the more popular for the family set is The Little Mermaid at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Our wankstory begins on the Broadway World message boards, when EdwinDrood172 posts that he saw one of the cast members from TLM outside, in his makeup and hair, smoking a cigarette.

He says... )

The very first comment on the thread summed it up with "This should go well."

It is later figured out - and without a lot of difficulty - that the "offending" cast member was Tyler Maynard, who plays Flotsam. (*points at icon* That's him.) But beyond all of that, is a lot of rending of garments, so to speak, about how it's disrespectful and he is a "Disney employee" and he doesn't deserve to be in the show if he smokes, yadda yadda yadda.

Four pages later, they're still going strong. There's some bonus "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" comments as well.
2:50pm: They think of you naked... in Mass Effect.
It seems that every time there's unclothed boobies in a video game, people get up in arms. The scapegoat this time around is Mass Effect, an XBox 360 RPG by BioWare, also known for the Knights of the Old Republic games. As in KotOR, Mass Effect players can foster relationships with non-playable characters, including romantic ones. However, this time around, your character can sleep with their romantic interest, in a very brief, tasteful scene (note that both het and lesbian options are available, but no mansex. Woe.). (ETA: [info]kahteh has pointed to a more revealing [but still brief and tasteful] sex scene here.)

A conservative talk show host hears about this game and the sex scene, and is not amused.

Trying so hard here not to paraphrase Zero Punctuation and make a 'Mass Erect' joke... )

ETA #2 - EA (the game's publisher) is insulted by the Fox News piece. The company's VP of Communications has this to say: Do you watch the Fox Network? Do you watch Family Guy? Have you ever seen The OC? Do you think the sexual situations in Mass Effect are any more graphic than scenes routinely aired on those shows? Do you honestly believe that young people have more exposure to Mass Effect than to those prime time shows?
