Supersentai VS Power Rangers! FIGHT!
Supersentai is, basically, a long-running Japanese special effects series (of a genre usually called Tokusatsu). Toei has kept it airing for over 25 years. Just over a quarter century of beating a dead horse. Good LORD. About 10 (?) years back, a man named Haim Saban took the action footage from GoGo Five and filmed a bunch of American actors in the roles of the characters (outside the battles and such). This became Power Rangers.

People whine about holier-than-thou, pretentious sentai fans. Topic starts off complaining about TV-Nihon, and justifiably so:

Then that brings us to the TV-Nihon thing. If a person doesn't want to go get their subtitled sentai from them, then by God that person is a moron in their eyes and they will verbally thrash them into the ground.

#tv-nihon itself is a wank channel of epic porportions. Will have to dig through logs sometimes (where a BNF, Kingranger, wanks on about how Noir sucks compared to one of the sentai series, amongst many other topics). They also have this rule that basically says that distribution of a fansub (and not a very good one. The typos in their Kamen Rider 555 subs make me want to go through their scripts with a big red pen) OUTSIDE of the channel is WRONG and anyone caught doing so, well, the consequences are dire. Or something. But this is a F_W report, so onwards.

People like John Chrichton and Jeff are true Sentai fans. Even though JC was whining about Ninja Storm for a while there. I kind of found it annoying, how he seemed to be getting down on Abaranger as well..

Because, clearly, if you don't like ONE season in a very long series, you are not a TRUE FAN!!!!1111one! ... Oh dear, I haven't been partial to Sentai since Timeranger! I'm not a True Fan!

And now, it's off to the home of TV-Nihon, where people complain about people who complain about them!

I thought that was Dairanger. ^_^;; I really, really like Sentai right now (You had to post this after I took my Hurricanger icon down! >_< ) but I like it FOR the corniness. And the fact that I have no clue what's going on, since it is all in Japanese, but I can still guess the plot. I'm scared of trying to talk to half of the people in the sentai community in LJ because they take it SO SERIOUSLY. I'm afraid they'd chop my head off for calling certain characters things like 'Mr. Grumpy' and 'Mr. Angsty'.

Really? I've always been told it was GoGo V, and considering that Power Rangers first aired at a time when I was a snitty preteen and didn't watch it, well, that was what I went with :x. Also, Hurricanger was fun! Shallow, but fun! . o O (Timeranger is still better, though *runs*)

Also, totally agree with you on interacting with the fandom. Sentai is MEANT to be cheesy and fun, so why take it so seriously?

Ah well, I'll be sitting in my corner watching Kamen Rider instead :x.

Go Go V was the... Lightspeed Rescue, I think. I have no clue where these people get the names half the time. x_x;

My favorite is Abaranger, mostly because it has the aforementioned 'Mr. Angsty', who looks like he wants to be a JRock star, and can become one just by being a grouch, and 'Mr. Angsty', who angsts all of episode 25, which was the first one I could get.

Could you get me some Timeranger? o.o;;; I've been trying for a whlie on WinMX, but no one wants to give some to meee. That makes me sad.

Also, I <3 you. I finally have someone to talk about sentai with! *cheers*

Sadly, I haven't really kept up with sentai obsessively since Timeranger and the first half of Hurricanger, so you'll have to forgive me for my relative ignorance. Kamen Rider fulfills my obsession quota now.

PS - My collection is far from complete, if just because the Japanese people I download from don't have the eps I need to fill my gaps either. Still have most of it, though! Also, will be sleeping soon. Guh.

Hee. I was actually the person who dredged that scary thing out of the many Japanese files on WinMX, because I had no idea what it was from the kanji, other than something to do with Dairanger. And then I watched it and was like, "Oh ... my ... god ..."

And then something like 250 million people downloaded it from me after I renamed it and put it in my shared directory, and its infamy followed. :D

You think that's scary? Mix the slobbering devotion of such a fan for the original Godzilla movies, and a macrophilia/stomping fetishist, and then tell Mr. Devotee you liked the American Godzilla movie better because Godzilla didn't look like a guy in a floppy rubber suit.

	The funniest thing about Sentai wank is that the EXACT SAME WANK happens in PR fandom as well. And then PR fandom also had the hoax of epic proportions called "Scorpion Rain". I think there must be some sort of law of wanky fandoms... like, the average age of the target group will be inversely proportional to the amount of wank it generates. Or something. (Reply to this)
