The Force is wanky in this one...
Once upon a time there was were several Star Wars fan groups, including NYC FanForce/SWNYC/MEPA/whatever-the-hell-they're-called-this-month (official theForce.net fan group) and the Empire City Garrison (a costuming group). And there was a an Episode II, and it was good. And all was happy and pleasant for Star Wars fandom in New York. There were cons and meetings and charity events and screenings and all sorts of fannish goodness in which everyone partook, together, as one big happy family.

The honeymoon's over.

See the bitchiness that was DELETED!!! Witness the screenshot of said deleted post, relocated for your entertainment! (Click on the screencap itself for a larger, more readable version.) Read the one-sided whining and bitching!

(However, don't witness the ECG's side of it, as their website appears to be non-existent and I'm not on the mailing list. Foo.)

Word. (Dunc, how did I know you'd be the first reply? *g*) TFN wank is the bestest. Nothing like fanboys, especially trooper fanboys, with an overinflated sense of self.

There is such a thing as being toooooo into a fandom. ECG 'founding member'? Chill. It's all just costumes and toy props anyway.

I love fandom. ^_^

Oh, I was in an HP wank here a couple weeks ago. We were nothing but a tiny dribble of spooge compared to the last one, though.

This reinforces why I haven't touched Star Wars costuming since the Halloween after Episode One... ;-) I've even met/been invited to join one of these super-accurate-elitest-scifi-costuming groups out here in CA; I've done my best to run the other way. No mater how tempting it is to be able to acquire weapons from the original molds for Aliens, I don't need the drama...

Same. As much as I'd love to finish my Arden Lyn costume and go trapsing around all dolled up in pleather and droid bits, I always ask myself, "Do I really want to be bothered by ANY of the people who would actually appreciate this costume?" And the answer is always no.

The Fan Force groups had assimalated thier way into our group[...]

...they do Star Trek costuming on alternate Tuesdays, I take it.

But seriously, I can't read this. Not that I'm not a horrid SW nerd, but New York, costumes? Not my drill.

Sheesh. the 501st strikes again.

"we're an exclusive, professional group."
Dude, you wear white plastic armor and scare small children with your buddies.

(Says the high-waisted woman who is trying to figure out where to put the other 4 boobs for her next con costume)

Now I must go write some Trooperball to take the wank from my mouth.

Does anyone else find the use of terms like "force", "garrison", and "professional" REALLY funny in light of the fact that it's FANDOM?

I don't know what's sadder, the fact that fans make such an issue over costumes or the fact that people took the time to copy it, post it and discuss it. I think everyone involved needs a hobby--But wait! A HOBBY is what started all this! SHEESH!

I am going back to my LOTR group now, THEY are normal!

-MONTHS- later I was chatting with a friend about that website, and said 'oh! i think i read a wank about that'..and lo and behold... SHE IS DARTH JURIST.

I'm seriously amused. I know someone involved in wank now. Hawt.
