The S*P LJ community is a breeding ground for wankery. A few days ago, it was the circumsision debate. Now? We're back to our good old friend: Furries.

It starts when Judsus declares "There is EVERYTHING wrong with defining yourself in terms of said fetish, shoving it down other people's throats, and completely lacking an identity outside of your pathetic sex life.", and provides a link. People go batshit, plus there are flags.

Opopanax decides to encourage people to accept their perversion and stop getting so worked up about it. It doesn't work.

Finnaly, we try a different tatic: Who likes pie? ...yeah, we all can see where that one headed.

And on and on the circle of wank goes.

Oh, I liked this one:
Pie is fucking overrated.
I think people don't appreciate pudding enough, and your assertion of pie is intended to suppress my love of pudding.

I do like pecan pie, though.

I didn't read that much, but I'm guessing the "weee're not aaall like thaaat, meeow!" contingent was out in force.

Because when there's nothing else to be wanky about, give the furries a kick.

I think bluewingedcat has an automatic "furry argument" detector, so that she can show up RIGHT away and get all self-righteous.

Bluewingedcat has an automatic wank detector, period. She does this in customers_suck, too.

Lucky bitch! I want an automatic wank detector too! That way... ::pathetic voice:: I too can start bringing wank to the lovesome doves of fandom_wank!

The problem is, that article bashes others spiritualism.

That's my favorite quote. Because you know, being furry is spiritual. And I'm sure it is, to some. But that just proves that ALL comedy bashes SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW, and I'd rather risk being occasionally offended if it meant I could get some funny in my life whenever I wasn't offended.

Far be it for me to play the wanker yet again, and I do agree with some points of the OP (like considering cutesy affectations to be annoying) - but I don't see where "posting on a forum designated for talking about a topic (here, furry)" constitutes "shoving it down people's throats."

But okay!

Then again, I haven't seen the SA article yet; that's pushing it in my office slackage.

Anyway. I'm thinking that the greatest asset any subgroup can have is a member out in the general community who a) can argue and b) has a sense of humor.

Am I the only one who's more irritated by the "OMG being a furry is NOT about sex, furry sex is icky and perverted and wrong" contingent than by anyone else? I get the point that it's annoying to have people assume that your "spirituality" is entirely a sexual fetish. But to tell people to "live and let live" and then to condemn people for whom it is at least partially about sex? Um, hypocritical much?

I agree with you completely, but having been there myself I can understand why they get a little hypocritical with condemning the furverts. Quite frankly, when the tenth person in a single day is screaming "OMG U SICK BASTARD I HOPE U DIE KTHXBAI" at you for being *any* sort of furry...you get a little cranky. ;) Simple "no, I'm not into that sort of furry fandom" becomes the more angry version you're used to hearing, especially when someone's been hearing such accusations as long as some furries have.

That's just my experience and those of people I know, however. There are probably some furries who really ARE just hypocrites. :)

It's an imperfect analogy, but they bluewingedcat and her cronies kinda remind me of that special brand of feminist that is always so defensive and never once forgets to tell you that just because they're a feminist doesn't mean they're one of those *gasp* hairy-legged lesbian feminists. Really! Because what could be worse than being a hairy-legged lesbian feminist?!

And here I thought the S*P LJ was for talking about the S*P comic. I had no idea it was secretly the headquaters of 'We Hate Furries Inc'.

Well, don't tell anyone I let you in on this but... it's just a front. The webcomic, the site, hell, the artist's just an automaton. The true purpose is to recruit suicide troopers for the Anti-FurryPuppetandMike movement.

We've even got Furry Catboy Mike puppets you can mutilate for practice. Interested?

Will I get to break people's hands with hammars? Cause if I can't mutilate someone I'm just not interested.

From a member of the furry contingent. Why, oh why, must my kinky subculture be so wanky?

I'm so embarrassed. Amused, mind you, but embarrassed.
