F_W On MetaFilter
Thought some of you might want to see this, if you haven't already. How meta is that? Heh.

(I absolutely love Metafilter, so this made me smile. "Fandom is Fucking Funny" - so, so true. That's why I love it. Well, some of the why. ;))

Haven't read it yet, but I will go after I post.

A good choice, I think. Heh. Sometimes I take a step or two back, and ask myself what it's all about, why we do this whole fandom thing, but then I remember how fun it is and forget to be meta and just play in the sandbox instead. But to those who aren't in it [involved in fandom], it must seem strange indeed.

I know I've tried to explain it to my mother a few times, and she doesn't quite get it (it being why we not only do things like write fanfic in the first place, and do RPGs, etc, but why we spend so much time at each other's throats about it).

I thought it was funny that the Metafilterians were just a little confused about what was going on. I suppose there IS a difference between a fandom person and a run-of-the-mill-net-person. I've been trying to tell my family this for years. They still don't get it, maybe I should pass along the link, they might actually find it informative. Doubt it, though.

I was a Metafilter person long before I was a fandom_wanker (or even a LJ/JFer) so I'm watching this with much interest.

Of course, I also check JF more than I do Mefi these days...

I hear that. MeFi has gone so downhill. I checked it constantly two years ago, but then stopped checking it when it became simply a slightly-less-stupid version of Fark (and without the Photoshop contests).

It just gradually stopped being destination reading for me...

And now they've spun off everything... there's newsfilter, geekfilter, bookfilter, humorfilter, blogfilter, err, blogroots, and so forth. What the hell is mefi for, again???

Aaaaaahhh! How weird. I read that site when I want to pretend I'm even mildly intellectual and serious. And it collides with F_W, which is on the other side of my brain (snarky and fannish.) It's like my best friend marrying my sister. Makeitstop.
