Meeeow, pussycat.
Ah, IMDB always brings the waaaaank. It's like the guy who turns up at parties with the flask to spike the punch! He's always welcome.

So, Halle Berry is going to be Catwoman in the upcoming Catwoman film. Someone on the IMBD board for the film isn't impressed about the fact that catwoman is going to be black but he's not a racist and throws in various reasons why he isn't. He also abuses the word *beep* and the caplock key. Two major crimes in my eyes but I digress.

Much incoherence, canon ignorance and general stupidity later and Martin Luther King is brought up because if Halle Berry can play Catwoman, then a white guy can play Martin Luther King. He seems to have forgotten that MLK, unlike Catwoman is not a fictional character.

People lay the smack down. He replies. There is more caplock abuse and the word *beep*. Just swear, man. Goddamit. There is also something about an asian bisexual one eyed dog playing superman which made me go: O.o at the mental images.

Ahhh, I shall be haunting the imdb boards for ages now. They're so wankalicious!

*beep* Eartha Kitt, my black grandmother!! The only true Catwoman is one exactly like in the comics, with ginormous watermelon boobs, frizzy black hair, and a constant expression of laughable surprise. ah, Jim Balent, you perverted loser you.

Halle Berry sure must be relieved that her twin Hally is in this movie, not her. I should go down the block to where they're filming it and scream *beep* at her a few times.

I'm more pissed off about the fact that she's in some bikini and not in a catsuit. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think the catsuit is sexier.

I've only seen the torn-up clubbing outfit with the open-toed shoes, but the principle's the same: How in Helen Hunt is she supposed to fight wearing that?

There are so many good reasons that Halle Berry is completely wrong for the part, race doesn't even need to be brought into it...
You know, is it just me, or is it really weird to the point of freaky when someone who's already played a costumed comic character plays a different costumed comic character?
It'd be like Tobey Maguire playing Tim Drake. o.o

Considering that a jar of Cheese Wiz with a wig glued on, could have played Storm in the X-Men movies as well as Halle Berry, there's other reasons to be afeared for the role of Catwoman other than it being played by a black woman.

The only casting choice worse than this is Keanu 'Whoa' Reeves as John Constantine. That's like casting a potted fern as the Baby Jesus.

(Reply to this)(Thread)

[info]gaisce
2003-10-25 07:17 am UTC (link)
But you're wrong about Storm. The jar of Cheese Wiz would have refused to act out the "Do you know what happens to a toad when it gets hit by lightning" out of an insult to its intelligence, thereby making the movie just slightly less horrendous.

And it would've sucked it up and worn blue contacts instead of complaining about how much they itched. Hello, woman, have you seen what Alan Cumming had to go through in makeup?

[info]beandelphiki

I tried wearing contacts once - it burned like I was getting a hot poker shoved in my eyes, and I felt sick to my stomach for hours after I first put them in. Not to mention that after I took them out and put my glasses back on, my depth perception was WAY off, and I kept crashing into things. My optometrist told me I just have very sensitive eyes, and I should stick to glasses.

If that's what she meant by "itched" I have sympathy, but somehow, I doubt it.

My fondest wish is that Keanu playing Constantine will result in the First of the Fallen deciding to eat Keanu's soul. Or his eyeballs and viscera, in the event that Keanu has no soul.

Keanu Reeves as John Constantine. Proof that you should NEVER say "It can't get worse than that."

Halle Berry being black isn't the problem with her as Catwoman as far as I'm concerned. Halle Berry being boring is the problem. No spark, no fire...dull. Someone phone Rebecca Gayheart, for gods sake.

Mind, I'm strongly tempted to go over to that board and swear a lot, just to see if the *Beep* is automatic, or if this bloke really is that sad.

Hell, I resent the fact that Halle Berry's going to star as Catwoman. But I resent it because she was a black hole of suckiness as Storm in X-Men, not because she's black. And I won't resent her in any other role because she's black either.

And if this quasi-racist was the least bit bright, he'd have leaned on my points and complained about Berry because she's terrible in comic book movies. That way, he could have indulged his racist leanings while still protesting Berry in the normal fashion.

Still, I'm glad he was dumb and we found out he's racist. Now we can throw all the metaphorical shoes we want at his disingenuous face!

Halle Berry is only black if you go by the one drop rule; she's as much white as she is black imo, and make a gorgeous catwoman, so wtf is his problem?
