Another Go-Gaia Wank
Magick Real or Just Not?

I'm too damn tired to go through this whole thing, but there is an asshat named Specmaster, who proclaims others asshats for putting a 'K' in magic(k). Ranger says the same thing, later. Then there must be something about someone named HappyHeart4Jesus who scares me by just existing. Then some person named eikai_rei, who evidently took over a previous thread about witchcraft, and now everyone hates her, or something.
I'm going to speak to all of you serious posters out there - no, that doesn't include eikai - drop this thread like a hot brick. Eikai is like a disease and will turn this thread into herbal w1tch version 3.0 with extra cuntwaffleness features. is a good example of a post about her.

It's at 25 pages, and hasn't stopped yet. How I love thee, 'Extended Discussion' forum. Doesn't that name just make you envision many people wanking?

Warning: The pages load slowly, because of all of the stupid avatars, and the banner signatures at the bottom.

Edited because I'm a moron and messed up the link tag. Sorry, guys.

*sighs, rolls eyes* And what the hell is WRONG with spelling magick with a 'k'? I really, REALLY don't get that.

A lot of people don't realize that it originated with Crowley and that there is a reason for it. Including, like, more than half of the people who do it that way today.

So, some people are turned off by the way we spell it because they have run across a lot of idiotic posers who threw it around a lot.

Like the guy down below who told one of the posters that he had killed someone with 'magick' and used it to have teh sexx with young girls. Baaaaaaaaaaaka.

I mean, I think it's *possible* but I think anyone who knew enough to actually DO it would be smart enough not to brag about it.

ED IS one hell of a wankfest. That's why I never go in there. Or anywhere except where having a firm grasp on sanity and literacy is a requirement. O_o (Which would be, as far as I can tell, one forum. ONE.)

and hey, I like my avatar. ;) But it is one hell of a server load. *boots Rufus, for he is going slowly* Still, I play on Gaia probably too much for my own good... oh well.

*waits patiently for the link* I've actually seen some wank before (even real life wank) about magic vs. magick. Most of the Pagans I know spell it magick to differentiate between the more hocus pocus-y stuff (at least that's how it was explained to me). I don't think people will ever stop wanking on the topic, though. I have seen some Pagans throw a huge hissy fit if the K is omitted.

The degree to which I do not give a shit about 'magic' vs. 'magick' is astounding. In fact, I'm likely to point at the dictionary and spell it without the 'k.' And yea, verily, I am a hypocrite, for I write fantasy, and, forsooth, I make words up all the dratted time.

But really... it's one fucking letter. It's like wanking over whether barbecue should be abbreviated BBQ or BBC.

I'm loving the cuntwaffles... How come THAT'S never mentioned as part of a nutritional and balanced breakfast? I want my children to grow tall and strong on a healthy diet of cuntwaffles....

I spell it 'magick' because I'm a Thelemite and we spell it that way. I could not care less how you spell it. I only get annoyed when people edit the 'k' out of stuff that I wrote, especially if I'm writing about the occult or writing fiction about a character who also has reason to spell it that way.

But.

It's a really dumb thing to get mad about, otherwise.

Bwah. This reminds me of the WB Bronze days when a young man informed me that it really is "magick" not merely "magic." He informed me that I should believe since he had killed people with da bad magick and made young girls have teh sexx with him. Plus his handle was "Magick" and who can argue with that, I ask?

Gaia Online! The last wank from there made me wind up getting an account. Do I have you to thank for that? Because if so, I have to hurt you. Just FYI. ;P

More on topic: I've always found the "k" spelling of magic to be, frankly, pretentious. I don't feel particularly vehement about it, though, unless I've been wading through fantasy novels that beat you over the head with it (see: Mercedes Lackey). So, yeah, I sympathize with the OP, but his approach is way wanky. ;P

That probably was me, since that's my primary source of teh wank. I jsut head over to Gaia and go into either the Anime/Manga discussion, which actually looks half sane, or the Extended Discussion, the eternal wankfest.

Now, I will confess to rather enjoying a lot of Gaia. Just like I enjoy Harry Potter and being a PotterFan. But that doesn't make parts of the fandom any less wanky. I try to avoid Gaia-wank like the plague - but sometimes I've just *got* to stir it all up. I'm a sick little monkey, de gozaru. ;-)

WAAH! I actually found that interesting, until the "there's no K in magic" idiots showed up. *kicks them*

I don't really mind it spelled either way, and I'm not into that stuff, but in my mind
magic = Harry Potter, Dragonlance, using objects or commands to control magic
magick = Wicca, Nature magic, inner magic - more like willing things to happen, than commanding them.

Um... did anyone get what I meant? I am not a Wicca, nor do I believe that the powers of Nature can be commanded, but I do believe that there are powers in the Nature.

Traditionally, Thelemites use magick to denote both of the types of magick you are discussing, and 'magic' for what stage magicians, or prestidigitators, do. I use 'magick' in my Potterfics, because I am a Thelemite, and we just do that. (Frankly, it would be too much of a PITA to remember to do anything else.)

But it doesn't really matter to anyone except Thelemites. I am told that some Wiccans and Pagans use this spelling and other Wiccans and Pagans don't. If they do, they got it (like the Gardnerian Wiccans got bunches of their rituals) from us, but we don't mind. (Well, I don't. Magicians have been plagiarizing each other since the dawn of time, which might explain a lot about my fandom, eh? The Romans stole from the Egyptians, the Christians stole from the Celts, the Wiccans stole from the Thelemites, the Haitians borrowed freely from the Natives, the Africans, and the Catholics--who gives a shit, as long as it works for ya?)

The use of the spelling with a k to denote 'real magick' as opposed to 'stage magic' originated with Aleister Crowley. There's supposed to be some numerological reason for it. It is an old English spelling, too, but it didn't mean anything speshul back then. I just like it better, myself.

I have some pagan friends who roll their eyes whenever they see someone insisting that magick must be spelled with a k, lest it lose its magickal importance. The writers among them also tend to grab the nearest dictionary and use it to beat Little Miss Magick upside the head.

I myself am more of the "magic/k, shmagic/k, it's all hocus-pocus anyway, so let's go have a beer" philosophy.
