And isn't it a good thing if other people like a band you like?
Especially if that means that they might get to tour more often, so you might see them in concert? And they might make more albums, so you can listen to all their wonderful music?

Well, in all fairness, translating a series into English and showing it on TV does tend to bring in more idiots to the fandom. But there were usually idiots before...it's just a lot easier to see them when the fandom gets bigger.

Personally, I would have been thrilled if Animeigo had picked up Yu Yu Hakusho, but Funimation beat them to the punch. I wanked about that back in the day...but it wasn't the release in English so much as who was doing it that got me riled up. On the other hand, the incident primarily responsible for making me go "hey, this is stupid" and getting out of the fandom was entirely between old-line fans.

I don't really know what my point is anymore. I think I was trying to say that stupidity is always present, but it becomes that much more prevalent when things go mainstream. Or something.

I need to wake up before I try to reply to these things.

Even a crappy dub with horrific cuts will draw more people into the fandom, and who knows - some of them might check out the original version, and then we'll have a new CFO (Cool, Funny Otaku) on our hands.
