Minor Harry Potter RPG fan community wank...

First, I must admit my own wanky contributions to this one. It's still very funny anyway. Wanking yourself and your friends is indeed allowed, right?

[info]triumvirate is a popular Harry Potter RPG on Live Journal with a devoted fan community, [info]triology. There are lots of cool, exciting things going on, a trio threesome, people getting blown up, an ambiguouslyevil!Draco, Voldemort posessing people, a cute Neville/Luna romance, and lots of angst among other things. Oh and there is occasional smut. So the fans post about lots of things going on in the game, but we, um, get a little bit excited about TEH SMUT.

[info]justin_ is a bit concerned.

So....
Is all that incites people to post seems to be the R rated stuff?

I know there is the occasional post about something amusing that happens, but why does it seem that the sweeter goings on seem to be ignored by the community? Neville and Luna just had a nice picnic and neither of them seemed to screw anything up, yet nobody commented on it. But when the puppies go for it, or when the possible allusion of a teacher student relationship between Snape and Mandy...

Am I missing something?

In the midst of all of this, [info]lozzy_girl posts a new thread about the non-smutty happenings in the game. [info]trio_fangirl (that would be me *cough*), can't help but wank just a little. Instead of intelligent discussion, a love fest ensues.

The best parts of this ickle wank are here, where [info]lozzy_girl and [info]justin_ argue about what percentage exactly of the [info]triology posts are about smut. [info]lozzy_girl gives us a break down of all of the posts from the past month. [info]_justin then counters this by his posting his own break down of events.

Yes, we *do* post a lot about smut. Bad fangirls, bad!

good point, there were no threats of stalking or knifing nor accusations of pedophilia or plagiarism. Cassie Claire remaned completely unmentioned. For Harry Potter, this was but a minor tickle from climbing the rope in gym class.

Still... it was cute!

Triumvirate smut rocks. It's what got me into kinda liking Harry/Ron in the first place. Granted, it's not my OTP, but I still like the pairing, partly because of the way [info]trio_harry and [info]trio_ron portray it.

As for getting excited about TEH SMUT, it's quite natural when a large number of members of [info]triology are among some of the best smut writers in the HP fandom.

But the fact is that Triumvirate is a relatively smutty game. Granted, I doubt this freak would have found, say, [info]da_rp (now defunct) even remotely interesting, as it was a 5th year PG-13 game (where the most interesting things that happened were an angsty H/Hr snog scene and a bit where Snape washed his hair, got drunk, and went on a rampage because he had to apologize to Harry). But the smut is Triumvirate's big draw. That and the trio action. Gotta love the trio action.

So, if this guy has a problem about the members of [info]triology, he could always form another fan community where such talk is forbidden, but I doubt anyone would join. If you can't take the smut, turn off the RPG.

WEll, I dunno... he does have a point. He wasn't complaining about the RPG being smutty, he was complaining about how that is all the fan community talked about. Where it got wanky was the trying to figure out just how much of the conversation was about the smut by analysing every single post.

..and OF COURSE the excellent smut is part of [info]triumvirate's draw. The best comment was by [info]inspireddreams:

Yes. The fact that we are all dirty little people with too much time on our hands who get a kick out of dirty smut/scandals.

3. Watching pictures of two ties fucking each other is just sick and wrong.

...in other words, get AIM, or email logs back and forth, or do SOMETHING besides those half-parsed bastardizations of "smut logs." *TWITCH*

4. For some reason, the picture of Draco's crotch in shiny, plastic pants just doesn't do it for me. Sorry. Maybe it's the angle.

5. You just *know* there's something wrong when Teh Fluff is more interesting than Teh Smut.

6. Oh, yeah. Did I mention that (for the most part) the characterization is TERRIBLE?


I think we're missing the greater problem here. It's not the fans that need wanking, it's the RPG itself. Because <i>damn,</i> it's Godawful.

Some of the narrative sections are halfway decent. Then it just derails horribly.
Examples.

Draco has no subtlety:

<i>Draco:
Andrew? You've named your broom Andrew? Fine. Get a good hold of Andrew's shaft--not too firmly; some boys don't like that--and just barely pull up with your hands. You'll find him quite receptive to your touch.

Ginny:
*does as she's told* Yeah, after Andrew Barton, my favorite Quidditch player. *broom responds instantly to her hesitant touch* Wow.

//This broom is unbelievable. It's so sensitive. I can really feel how much it wants to be in the air.// </i>

Or how about Snape, waxing poetic?

<i>Harvey Bulstrode wanting out before he even graduated, a green light, his face splits open, liquefies, like a fountain of flesh and blood, reforms - Blaise Zabini.
