Neo... he's like Jesus, in a way... oh, wait.
"anyone who does not think that The Matrix is the most important story ever told is a scary, naive person who is living in denial, and i do not want to be friends with them." (bolding original)

Someone takes his psuedo-philosophy a leeeeetle too seriously.

No spoilers in the post and one tiny quote in the comments as of right now.

It's so wonderful to see the honoured written traditions and religious philosophies of my ancient culture being used to describe Morpheus' perfect world! You know, if the Matrix didn't use that verse to bring it on home, I might never have realized what terrible things could befall civilization when it gains Too Much Powah.

"Most important story ever told".

Yeah, so important it's been told several times, before the Matrix was even released. "Dark City", anyone?

And yeah, someone needs a serious reality check. Preferably with a baseball bat. Or perhaps Keanu - they're both wooden. *ducks the Keanu fangirls, should any be around*

Okay, we're going to have to take a poll now.

Who is more deluded? This LeBelly or She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named?

I'd have to say LeBelly. At least She-Who was sorta hot in real life, and could maybe have had some basis for claiming that we were all jus' jelos of her squeaky-clean-good-lucks.

Anyone who actually thinks the Matrix is more than a chop-pow karate movie with very drab and simple philosophical underpinning, however...

Yeah honey, it's called philosophy. Check out Plato, Hume, Descartes, etc. to see how the Wachowski brothers brutally raped them.

And if Keanu Reeves is the new Jesus, I'm packing up my air conditioner and running towards Hell.

I always felt like i was one of the few people in the universe who didn't think that The Matrix was THEBESTMOVIEEVAHOMG!!!!

I mean, it's an interesting concept and the visuals are neat, but eh...didn't see the big deal. Saw Reloaded too and was honestly bored by it, except the part where...uh, guess i can't say without spoiling it for someone. Anyway, that particular scene made me cackle with malicious glee for some reason.

I actually liked the movie. Does that make me shallow? But . . . shit . . . this guy is indeed scary.

The Slashdot article and its accompanying comments are a GOLDMINE of wank (and spoilers). A choice comment:

"Aside: Most people who find the Matrix to be merely philosophy 101 have clearly only a 100-level familiarity with philosophy themselves. The rest are simply arrogant :p"

This comment pretty much sums them all up.

Lead me from darkness to light. (ie: from ignorance to knowledge)

hehehehe, that's my favorite part, I think. You know there are some people reading that who truly didn't understand that darkness and light were metaphors for ignorance and knowledge until this yutz pointd it out. Then upon understanding it, they will think, "Wow! That is so *deep*!" As if that metaphor hasn't been used approx. 300,000,000 times in the past.

The wank spreads! Now the BBC has been affected by shrieking fan boys!

Absolutely love the oh-so-original "YOU'RE NOT A TROO FAN!!!!!!11!!" comments here:
Had he been a real Matrix fan, he would have seen The Animatrix, Matrix, and Matrix Reloaded, and probably played the game, too. Had he, he'd know that this is a stunning ending to a great trilogy. (Uh huh. Because there's nothing wrong with forking out 50-odd extra dollars in order to enjoy a film you've already paid to see...)

There's also an inexplicable moment where a poster compares watching Revolutions to seducing a fish o_0

Is there any discussion of this film at the moment that ISN'T descending into wank? Come on, find one, I dare you...

The Matrix is the most important story of all time? Damn, that means my collection of books, movies, and video games are all meaningless. I suppose I should remedy that by wearing leather, running up a wall, and shooting a big pile of them with an AK-47 that just randomly appeared. They were all out of flamethrowers, unfortunately.
