Mmmm

Some tasty LotR wank via Metafilter. Boneybaloney posts, "Christopher Lee has been cut out of 'Return Of The King." Fans and detractors spooge all over Peter Jackson.

Dammit. Could you possibly put this behind an lj-cut, for those of us who are trying to avoid RotK spoilers?

How's that a spoiler?

Of course it's a spoiler. It's like... spoiled the entire damned movie. How dare they spoil this for us? *ShriekFumeFaint*

Well, it would imply that certain scenes from the books requiring Saruman's presence (like, oh, the failing silver tongue of Saruman in the ruins of Orthanc, or the scenes at the veryvery end of the book) wouldn't be in the movie. That's the only way I can think of that it could be a legitimate spoiler.

(dammit, I wanted those scenes in the movie. oh well.)

Um, it says that Saruman's many and important scenes in ROTK/the end of TT are not in the movie. So for all of us who actually read the book, it's a movie spoiler. Whether you care or not, it would still be polite to cut it and give people the option to avoid it.

I could. If I thought it was a spoiler. But I don't. So suck it up.

If you want to debate whether it's really a spoiler, fine. There's no call to be a fuckhead about it.

No, it's just a word for someone who's being a brat. There are a lot of people who don't like spoilers and if you post them without a warning that's considered bad fannish behaviour. Learn to deal with it without wanking all over my screen, please. lj-cut takes two seconds and saves us all some spooge.

That wasn't a spoiler. Spoilers are stuff like:

- Frodo gets bitten by a big fucking spider and almost dies
- Faramir almost dies but is healed by Aragorn
- Denethor commits suicide
- Arwen gets Narsil reforged and Elrond brings it to Aragorn
- Eowyn dresses like a one of the Rohirrim and sneaks Merry into the battle where the two of them battle and defeat the WiKi.

Like that.

There's a whole world outside Lord of the Rings out there called Earth.

I am sure there is a law for someone typing a long post on a fannish topic that ends with the poster telling the "obsessed" fans to get a life. And if there isn't, then the poster is still a hypocritical idiot.

Kerianne's Law of Dramatic Irony

In an online debate, the first person to accuse his opponent of spending too much time on the Internet and/or invite his opponent to "turn off your computer and go outside" automatically loses the argument, and should be subsequently forced to turn off his own computer and go outside.

Works for this one.

This post would have been more appropriate for the "bastardisation" wanker; the metafilter posters weren't really all that obsessive or wanky over Saruman and Lord of the Rings to justify the "There's a whole world outside Lord of the Rings out there called Earth." comment.

I liked this exchange...

"as much as I love Christopher Lee, I think he's coming off pretty sanctimonious here"

Chrsitopher Lee loves the LOTR books like no one else in the cast. According to him, he's read the trilogy once a year for the past 20 years, and served as the Tolkein scholar at hand on many occasions. If he's pissed, it's probably because of the hurt to the story, not to him. You have to admit, it's pretty lame to leave it out of the end of Two Towers because you think it will go better at the start of Return of the King, but then leave it off the start of ROTK because it really did belond at the end of TT after all. Reread it every year for decades?

Sheesh. Someone needs to tell him about Amazon. There are lots of books out there. He doesn't need to keep reading the same one over and over and over.

I have it on good authority that not only is there no Elladan/Elrohir twincest in this movie, but that the Hobbits get the only nude action. Where's the outrage and the petitions over that, I ask? It's wrong, I tell you, just plain wrong.
