Mmmm, icon theft!
Greatest Journal seems to be the sanctuary of icon thieves. They must think no one will notice. Unfortunately for them, they are wrong. You'll want to scroll quickly past the horrible story and the squeeing fangirls to hit the icon theft notifications. There are many.

The best part is when she gets called on it, she throws a total hissy fit and gets smacked down like the bitch she is in the comments. That's some fun reading :)

But there's a happy ending. She took all the icons down. *claps*

Dude, did you guys see her userinfo?

People just don't understand the whole girl on girl thing. Most get all perverted and crap, and that's just not me. The whole experience was sensual, and passionate. Something no man has ever made me feel.

...Yes indeedy. I know that's what I want total strangers to know about me!

Okay, I have a question about making icons:

Do people really put their "blood, sweat and tears" into them? I see that claim all the time, how they slaved away for hours, endangering their lives, to get these wonderful little pictures just perfect.

And yet, me, I just open Photoshop and do a little cropping.

So, I wonder, am I doing something wrong? Should I be putting my life into them or something? 'Cause the drama of the whole thing? Eludes me.

You must be using the wrong software. The newest versions of Photoshop and PSP require you to download some blood onto a floppy and incorporate it into the design. Only REAL icons have DNA.

And yet, me, I just open Photoshop and do a little cropping.

That's usually what I do, but I do have some that I did a fair amount of manipping on that took me a lot of time and effort. And a lot of people put way more time into their icons than I do - those mini-movie icons, for instance, irksome though they are, must take forever and a day to put together. I don't know that I'd care enough to complain if someone stole my icon, unless it was one that I put a lot of work into and the person was going around telling everyone they made it, but in some cases I can see why people do.

Yup, I'm with you. I just don't understand how someone can crop a pic they took from an official website or a publicity still, then demand that anyone using it credit them. I make icons and I can do that with five clicks of my mouse. Seven if I paste on a border or add text. It usually takes about 45 seconds.

Okay, so if someone screencapped a scene from an obscure movie themselves, added special effects and animated it and stuff, I can see how they'd be annoyed over someone using it without permission, but how can people ask to be credited when they've done hardly anything to deserve it?

Personally I'd never take anyone's icons if they said 'don't use these without permission', but I can't help boggling when I see a bunch of cropped photos with the note 'if you use these you must credit me in your keywords'. It's like the person who puts the cherry on top demanding that they get credit for the whole cake.

I love the person who comes in to defend her and keeps arguing that maybe the girl was "given" the icons from someone else who stole them. Yeah, that's possible in some cases, but what about the ones where she puts in the keywords "made by me?" Whatever.

Who puts "made by me" in their keywords anyway? Isn't that sort of assumed unless you say otherwise?

Jeebus! First, I saw icons. Then I saw the bio. Now I think I am crying red tears. I don't spend hours making icons but I like to think a few of them (out of the 90-something) are, at the very least, unique so I can understand where the creators are coming from. That said, I can't really feel anything but pain considering the subjects of the stolen icons.

Mwah. At least my Killer Klown icon is safe. My fear-inducing precioussss.

There isn't some weird etiquette I'm missing about icon usage, is there?

I just thanked the person who made my icon, and if anyone compliments it or whatever, I'll do a proper attribution. Can I safely say that's all there is to it?
