Good lords...

Over on the LJ feed, the comic Get Fuzzy gets wanky.

Aah, you can always count on the comic feeds to supply the Wank.

It's one of the trueisms of life... where there are comics feeds, there will be wank. +1 if the comic mentions a specific non-American country, +2 if that country is either Canada or Mexico.

+5 if the comic tosses in a cultural/pop cultural reference that few outside said country would get. (Causing someone to say "What's that mean?", and someone who gets the reference to snap back "It's obviously about [insert name of show specific to region or country], you ignorant American!")

and this is the land of the free, i'm free to say what i want about canada... and you, who talk about oppression, just oppressed me by telling me to shove what i think up my ass... irony

OMG, like, he's totally getting oppressed! Because everyone knows "free speech" means "free to say whatever as long as you agree with me." There's a law for this. What was the law for this?

Was it this one? There might be another first amendment one out there somewhere. Is there a law about assuming the entire internet is in America (especially while having a discussion about another country)?

There has to be one where you try to invoke the first amendment to say "no one can tell me to shut up." YES THEY CAN!!!! THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF FREE SPEECHAAAARRRGH.

Um, sorry for the shouting.

Well, the conversation seems to be more about "freedom" and "opression" than the first amendment anyway.

The Law of International Internet Relations:

In a discussion with international reach, at least one person will assume that everyone in the discussion is from the same country, and at least one person will be rebuked for assuming that everyone in the discussion is from the same country.

These people will not necessarily be the same.

Not all of canada allows gay marriages. One providence allows them... Don't go busting up your country before you have your facts straight. Canada and the US are both changing at about the same rate, but being that we're divided into 50 areas that need to change and canada has I think 8? we're probably going to change at a different speed.

Does anyone else want to bash this guy over the head with an atlas?

10 provinces, 3 territories, and gay marriage is legal in Ontario and British Columbia. That's two, count them, TWO provinces. Population wise, that's fifty percent of Canada.

I recall something about Alberta once, but it had a bunch of long words in it and I'm such a product of modern schooling.

and by long words, I mean the term with which they meant marriage.

If you read something about gay marriage in Alberta, it either the Premier's stunningly homophobic comments on gay marriage, or on the Straight Pride parades.

In the city I'm living it, there was a Anti-Gay-Marriage rally this summer. And they actually arrested one of two gay men who came and tried to speak for the pro-side.

It's alright. When people think of Canada, they think of Ontatio, or Quebec, or BC. Alberta is pretty much Texas, only colder.

Just had to toss these in for entertainment value: local bitchery (and replies to same) over a recent Get Fuzzy cartoon. (Actually, a search turned up a whole mess of stuff.)
