Earring Wank!
I was going to hold off for a week or so... but this is just too weird.

Yesterday's girlfriend wank has since turned into a discussion of cloning, which is something of an improvement - they're actually joking instead of wanking (I hope they're joking). However, wank can never be created or destroyed, it merely changes form. So instead of six pages of girlfriend wank, today we have six pages of earring wank... and it's not even a real earring.

It went something like this:

ArleneP: Now that Josh is all grown up, I'd kind of like to see how he'd look with just a little discreet earring, maybe a tiny hoop or a diamond or gold stud.
I think it would look ravishing!

Rest of Messageboard:

littledink: No, Josh should NOT get an earring or a tattoo or anything else that speaks to the "culture" of today or what so many people think is cool or the IN thing to do. Josh has stated that he HATES his ears and so suggesting that he get an earring to show off "said" ears doesn't make sense. Now, if Josh wants to get an earring, tattoo, belly ring (LOL) or anything else, then that's great. But I would hope that he doesn't give into any pressure of trying to be like everybody else, cause he "ain't" never going to be like anyone else we've ever heard or seen before. And that's part of the national treasure that's Josh Groban.

grobanite227: Absolutely no piercing for our Josh!! I just don't believe that would be Josh's style anyway!

mandy1979: Hehe... no... I personally do not like guys with earrings... *cringes* ..there are some guys who can pull it off, but I think Josh is not one of them, lol.

jgrulestheworld: NO...........NO...........NO!!!!! There.........I think I've said how I feel!!!! Josh is beautiful just as he is. Unlike a LOT of other men, he needs absolutely NO adornments of ANY kind!!!! Whew.............all that shouting has left me quite hoarse!!

indaymen2: No! Please! That is so uncivilized for a guy esp. our Classy Josh! (no offense to those who have one) .He doesn't show his ears anyway! he thinks it's too big that's why he grows his hair over it. ( saw it in one of his interviews a while back.) I hope he won't do it. That's all up to him tho'.

JoshGrobangal1401: um....NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO earring!!!

IdahoGrobanite: NO NEVER NO WAY (with three 'shocked' emoticons on each side!)

Mroof227: no way!! couldnt imagine our josh with a piercing!!! no...josh is just fine how he is...Sir Thudly!

Sissel: Nonono....I have NEVER liked earrings on men!

NCGrobanFan: NO

joshfree: No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JOSH DOESN'T NEED THAT.

Surfergirl1300: there is no reason for Josh to dement his body- he looks perfectly fine just the ways he is and if no one like that then then can go....... elsewhere.

profa24: NO EARRINGS OR NIPPLE RINGS OR BELLY BUTTON RINGS OR ANY OTHER KIND OF RING! PLEASE! Josh is perfect the way he is.

CapeCodJune: Good Lord, NO!!! That,s NO!!!!!

DJPhantomPhan: That would look awful.

Gloworm: JOSH WITH AN EARRING?? NO - NO - ONE THOUSAND TIMES NO!!!!!!

trumpetgurl: no earing plz!! I think it makes him "above" today's culture w/out all the tatoos and piercings! he looks sophisticated, yet sexy!

Here we briefly lapse into some semblance of sanity and amusing banter...

rainbowillusion: But ... if Josh wanted it, would it still be bad? I trust that he knows himself well enough to know what he wants, and though I can't see him getting an earring (taking his ear-phobia into account), if he decided to get one, I wouldn't hold it against him.

boltguy: You wouldn't ??..I thought most of the ladies here would hold what ever they could against him......

And then...

missionmom7: NO WAY! DON'T MESS WITH PERFECTION

boltguy now attempts to end the thread, being conscious of the fact that devoting five pages of posts to this is... well, absurd.

boltguy: enough said,,,the Mom of missions has spoken..where can we go from here??????!!!

The hint remains swinging on its hook, and the wank goes on.

CardinsMusic: EWWWWWWWWW...... NO. No, no, no. If Josh wanted it, Brian or David would most likely talk him out of it. Josh is beautiful the way he is!!

spudqueen: [enters] Noony Noony Noony Noony....[typing ] N [typing] O [sounds out word] NNNN OHHH NN O NNOH NO! [exits] ....Noony Noony Noony Noony

specialjenny: NO!!! Josh is good the way he is, no jewellry please, a watch is okay, and of course his marriage ring...but no earring thanks

Dadamsmom: No EAR ring No WEDDING ring...yet (wait at least ten years) No metallic adornment whatsoever, He is so 'magnetic' as he is, the jewelry will only get in the way. [in the way of what you ask? Singing! ]. Plus it usually makes a noise of its own. Personally, I like that he doesn't wear jewelry of any kind. It distracts from his fine appearance. Putting jewelry on Josh is like putting 'Redi-wip' on a wedding cake.

With all this passion over the idea of an earring, I'd hate to see them reacting to a real one.

After two weeks of "Who the fuck is Josh Groban?" I finally googled.

Wow, what a TOOL.

He looks like the kind of kid who I'd steal lunch money from and then go fuck his younger brother. Or sister.*

He deserves his twinkies.

*I'm not actually a schoolyard bully. That phrase is a joke from the suite I lived in last year. We'd sit around watching videos on College Television Network and laugh at the emo boys. At the particularly effeminate and whiny ones, we'd throw that insult.

In fairness, he has an amazing voice. But ye gods, had I known that he had fangirls like this, I probably would never have bought his first CD, much less left it in my car CD player for a year.

Hee... I saw one of his CDs at the store the other day, but I figured that if I took to it, I would metamorphasize into one of them.

I feel the same way, unfortunately. That's why I always just download his songs from WinMX and never pay the poor boy a dime.

The voice is nice, but it's nothing particularly exceptional...I have these dreams that some day, everyone who listens to him, or Andrea Bocelli, or Charlotte Church, doing opera-lite, will discover some *real* singing and how amazing it actually is.

But that's just the cry of an opera fan whose boards have been invaded one too many a time by the "Don't you all think Josh Groban could be a REALLY HOT opera star?" crowd.

Wordy Word McWord.

He's lazy on his intervals, has a mediocre range, and uses vibrato FAR too heavily and with FAR too little control. Melodramatic, affected arrangements and vocal tricks do not a great singer make, and his 'pop lite' classical schtick gives me hives-

*SPLURT*

Oh shit! *flees!*

There is, after all, no wank like the wank of opera fans complaining about voices. You haven't seen True Live Wank until you've seen an aging Callas queen yelling at a Tebaldi queen in the lobby of the Metropolitan Opera House...

Pity that the opera fans wank in such a manner that almost no one else knows about it, because it puts almost anything else to shame--well, okay, except HP. Those guys are bugfuck.

CTN sucks. They're just like MTV2, even owned by the same company.

Sadly, they have to show it in the dining halls. My mind is going numb because of it.

Emo? What defines emo?

Emo is the brand of punk that's really whiny and angsty, often about "her."

Bands like New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional, Saves the Day, etc, all fall under the classification of "Emo." Weezer does, too, though I wouldn't necessarily call it punk.

Emo isn't always a bad thing, but in the last few years, there's been far, far too much of it.

Huh. Don't really recgonize most of those names.

But why whine and angst about some chick? Shouldn't they be off crusing and getting into random hook-ups?

And why would anyone in his or her right mind listen to that crap?

Something the Emo bands don't want you to know:

All their songs are about the same girl.

from robothips on livejournal.

you, friend, are a foolish scene kid. emo is not short for 'emotional' in such a broad sense. if so, fucking willie nelson would be king. not conor oberst. not tim kasher. not rivers cuomo or michael stipe.

emo is a spinoff of HARDCORE that got its start (and concise end) in d.c. in the mid eighties. it's creation is generally accredited to that late and great rites of spring. after they died out, the next move was post-EMOTIONAL-hardcore. this was based in new york city. think saetia.

emo does not exist anymore. it was only alive for a short and glorious time. the only thing that survives now is melodic hardcore, such as hot cross, which contains members of the former saetia, or even american nightmare (at its most commercial) or isadora crane. put down the seventeen, turn off the muchmusic, and buy saetia's "a retrospective" from socialdeviant.com. get informed before you shoot you mouth off about something. you honey, to quote the great andre 3000, are ice cold. fourfa.com.

As far as I care, "Emo" means "Crappy pop-punk shit that I hate."

(BTW: This leads to an interesting little wierdness...because of my internal definition, nothing I like can be Emo. Hence, in my world, neither Weezer nor early Jimmy Eat World are Emo. It's wierd being me, sometimes...)

Heheh. For some reason that amuses me.

I have a hysterical reaction to anything labeled "non-mainstream." As a nobody from the suburbs, I have decided that anything I've heard of, no matter how minor or unnoticed by the general public, is mainstream. Always. Granted, 99.9999% of my favorites are mainstream or have a well-known cult following (same diff), but it's a fun fiction to perpetuate.

It also pisses people off when I call their favorites mainstream, which is a definite perk. 8)

To me, "emo" is "that crappy band that went on forever and ever and made me wait till 3 in the morning to hear Mary Timony play." I HATE YOU JOAN OF ARC YOU AND YOUR PSEUDO-ANGSTY OVERINTELLECTUALIST WISH-WE-WERE-SONIC-YOUTH GUITAR MASHING CAN SUCK MY DICK.
