Much-Ado-About-Hyphens!
Long time reader, first time poster. Not only that, but I bring you all Gaia Wank!

So here's the story: AirSpiritX is a "true fan" who feels the need to educate the ignorant masses on the true spelling of "Inuyasha." Or rather "Inu-Yasha."
Because if you don't know where to put the hyphen, you're not a true fan!
The fun continues as people jump down his throat for being an ass. Then he announces that "it was my brother who said those things, but he was right and you're all still stupid!" Then people prove him wrong. He doesn't like that at all.

It's at 55 posts and still growing.
All because of a lousy hyphen.
Long live Gaia!

I refuse to be lectured in spelling by a little pixelated Neo-wanna be. Heeheehhe.

I have a little brother who lived in Jerusalem, and he wants me to tell you all that "Super Book" was actually "Super-Book", and while the book sucked children into the Bible, there was no flying house, dammit.

Gah. Teh wank, it hurts us.

I saw that thread. I'm sorely tempted to simply post "Here's a ladder. Please use it in the pursuit of getting over yourself. Kthxdie." That guy's damn annoying.

Personally, I tend to call the series Inu-Yasha, and the character Inuyasha. Helps distinguish a bit.
Anyway, I won't look, to avoid the temptation to join in the wanking. ^.^

Okay. My Japanese is not terribly good, and I'm in no way interested in the series being discussed. But. Isn't a hyphen a Western thing? For example, when the name "Shoiryu-san" is written in Japanese, there would be no hyphen in the kanji. Just the characters for "Shoiryu" and then the character for "san".

Unless Takahashi has specifically put a hyphen someone in the kanji for the title "Inuyasha", then it absolutely doesn't matter if one is used or not. I think. @_@ I just gave myself a headache.

Then people prove him wrong.

I adore leloi for explaining it all so clearly, with illustrations and links. Although she does belabor the point (hooboy!), AirSpiritX was asking for it. (My bro was using my computer... yyyeahsure.) And I learned a few useful things about kanji and translations. Wank is educational - who knew?

Honorable mention to Xie Jin, who posted, Let's all take a deep breath and move on, shall we?, followed by a huge sig pic that screams, "You're a homo!" apropos of nothing. Later, he states, I think we should all refer to it from here on it solely by kanji. You know, for authenticity and all. And those of us without Japanese characters installed on our browsers, we shall etch out little squares, like this" [] [] [] " Because of course we're demeaning the anime to the level of worm crap if we don't all romanize it the same way.

Inu-Yasha, Inuyasha, 犬夜叉, it's all the same to me. I understand Japanese and you know what? I still say it Inu-Yasha.

And I'd like to consider myself a true fan, since I've been into the series since it first came out in Japan, and I own two very popular Inu-Yasha shrines.

But whatever.
