Harry Potter, Icons, and Slash... all in one wank!
So over on hp_icons, logicalromantic posts a few anti-slash pieces. Behind an lj-cut. With a warning to slash fans to skip the post. But we all know better than to think that'll keep people from wanking!

ociwen tells her to take it to a het only community. (Is there any such thing in HP fandom? Even pottersues has occasional lesbians...)

jadedroses thinks the warning should have been in bigger letters. No, really. She says exactly that - she skipped the disclaimer and it's all logicalromantic's fault for using too small a font.

gypsyflame wants to make anti-het icons. logicalromantic attempts to respond to the baiting with some semblance of maturity (leaving me wondering why she responded at all), and is made fun of by watersdaughter, who freely admits that she's never had any first-had exposure to the Harry Potter books or movies... she just likes slash.

I'm having a hard time deciding whether logicalromantic or her detractors are the wankier party here.

And the anti-slash person cross posted his/her icons at hp_graphics (http://www.livejournal.com/community/hp_graphics/571248.html) as well. *shakes head*

Logicalromantic did say some rather homophobic things, don't you think?

How does one "scientifically investigate the homosexual lifestyle and its consequences" before deciding to "blindly embrace it"?

Did she scientifically investigate her heterosexuality before she blindly embraced it?

I think every man in the world should scientifically investigate butt-ramming before deciding to embrace it. That sounds like sane rationale to me!

Meanwhile, some of us find slash offensive because it's a prime source for MSTable material. Nothing can top the WTF-ness of 'slash' where you must conclude that all these 'men' are actually dick girls without cunts.

( Really. It has nothing at all to do with the idea of homosexuality. It has more to do with the fact that we want to be reading about gay men, not...something more bizarre. At least, not without decent warning. )

I've always wanted to say "If sexuality is based off of a choice, why don't you choose to walk in our shoes for a bit? If you can be exclusively homosexual for half a year and not have a single want to look at the opposite sex, then I'll suppose you have a point." Bit too much of a wuss to want the wank to include me at this point.

My first thought was "What a lot of boring and/or unimaginative icons. Okay, you’ve learned how to animate – well done. Now go and get some interesting ideas to use with that wonderful skill!" ...which, really, was a kind of wanky thought.

But they're just...not that good. That anti-twincest one is badly composed, with the different size pictures and the black outlining that changes size each frame. The Snape ones aren't particularly compelling. The Alice Longbottom ones are difficult to read because it's white text on varying-shades-of-white-and-grey. The 'always pure' ones are plain boring. And the 'some people are stupid' icons aren't all that funny. Also, the frame flip-over is kinda fast.

All in all, f_w has much better icons.

I'm having a hard time deciding whether logicalromantic or her detractors are the wankier party here.

Both? But wait, the wank will be in the house soon. =)

Why do people do this? Why do they automatically assume that every kind of 'um, I don't really like this' post is an attack??

I love how she's all, "I'm not being intolerant, you are!" Right, you just said that slashers are stupid. That's not intolerant at ALL!

Now, honestly-- while I personally can't understand how anyone could NOT like sex between two members of your preferred gender (c'mon! two for the price of one!), I fully respect others' rights to see things a different way.

But the fact that she openly said slashers-- not even slash, mind you, but slashers-- are all STUPID, and then was just shocked! and appalled! when people got offended....

Well. That just looks like someone spoilin' for a fight.

And then she's trying to pretend she's the reasonable one.

Hey, be anti-slash all you like. No one's stopping ya. But as us slashers don't say all het-writing folk are stupid and disgusting and gross and delusional (well, the majority of us don't, anyway), kindly do us the same favor? Thank you.

Believe it or not, het and gen writers are not a dying breed. You are not a martyr. Put down the persecution complex, and slowly. Back. Away.

I LOVE the person who blames the icon maker for not posting the warning in a larger font. Oh yes, it's HER fault that the other person clicked the link, because she didn't add a passwordk protected pop-up that forced the other person to type in "I want to see the anti-slash icons" before getting to see them. Great how people like to blame their own behavior on everyone else.

The icons weren't even anti-slash. Not doubting the homophobia of the creator, but the icons themselves? Anti-pairing.

If I say Snape and Harry shouldn't have sex, that doesn't make me anti-slash. It means I think that Snape/Harry sucks. I may well enjoy, say, Narcissa/Ginny or Sirius/Remus. So why were people griping about the icons BEFORE the poster made any homophobic comments? *grumbles*
