Ban Anime now! Save us from ourselves!
Over on [info]yuri, someone posts the following: Liek, OMG, sumeone wants to BAN anime!!1!one!

Many people respond, telling her to drag the steel rod out of her anus, because it is *obviously* a fuggin' joke. I mean, the original petitioner's e-mail is "neko332@rogers.com". How serious can this person really be?

Then, of course, someone pops in to say "it's just some board guy making fun of christians for being retarded". (spelling mistakes intentional) Person receives a well-deserved Kidney Punch of DOOOOOOM from our own [info]zannechaos, who is then informed that being Christian automatically pre-empts you from being/supporting gayness and/or anime of any sort, because it is liekOMGaSIN!

I think I missed the commandment that said "Thou shalt not be Otaku or teh Gay".

But in any case, the signatures on the petition are Teh Funneh!

Plus, she's a Quaker, so it'll be a Parade of the Inner Light!

P.S. Quakers are teh awesome. Their brand of organized religion is about the only one that doesn't give me hives. Also, I frequently agree with their politics, which is just icing on the cake.

I admire her for not having dug into that twit more than she did. Truly, she showed more restraint than I myself would have.

*sheepishly raises hand* Me too. I love slash, yaoi and yuri, and I'm proud to say that I'm Christian. I loathe it when people who are not Christian start saying that all Christians are intolerant homophobes. We aren't, damn it. Guess what, a lot of Christians also happen to be gay and bisexual as well.

I wonder what would happen if one of these people actually met a gay Christian? Would they be all "No, no, you're a Christian so you don't have the right to be gay! Get back into your narrow-minded heterosexuality right now dammit!" or would they be more like "No no! You're gay, you can't side with those close-minded bigots that bash you!" Grr. I can't decide which is worse - Christians who are homophobic, or non-Christians who refuse to perceive us as anything but.

In general, people need to learn and get it through their skulls that petitiononline.com has less useful information on its severs than that of fanfiction.net...

Seriously, if I've even seen a website that was a total waste of time (aside from stopping by and mocking stupid people), that's it.

Oif.

Yes, but... I just can't believe people were taking the petition seriously enough to *flame* it. ^^ And the flames were godawful. If anything, they could take those to the president and give them as a case for banning anime - it lowers IQ, or something. ^^

Can we make a new law that says anyone who uses "discriminate" as a transitive verb (transitive? When you do something to someone elst, like "he discriminated Japanese people," right? I know the different Russian verbs, but have trouble identifying them in English) automatically loses?

You discriminate against people, flamers.

Yep, Saber Marionette J manga, because it has such great bondagey bits in it. And lots of nekkid boobies bouncing around.

you can't be a religious christian and be a fan of anime an yuri at the same time, the two don't go together

Exqueeze me? Bakingpowder? Assphincter says what?

This must be one of those people that thinks that all Christians are BJU-attending televangelist-supporting Baptists. And I'll bet not even all of *them* are anti-gay or homophobic. *sigh* I'm very tempted to jump into that thread, but I think I'll restrain myself to posting here and saying, with the greatest respect, AAAAAARRGHH! WHY ARE PEOPLE SO STUPID??

Please, please, please. Not all Baptists, myself included, support televangelists, the most (in)famous of whom were Church of God, not Baptist.

I might possibly argue that I'm more or less a Christian Taoist, but that's probably going to cause headaches for most people.

As a conservative Christian slasher, I'm not even going to touch the "You can't be a conservative Christian and a slasher" gibberish. Whew! I'm glad I don't give a rat's behind what [info]holygrail actually thinks.

That said, has anything productive ever, anywhere, at any point in time, been accomplished by an online petition? At all? I think not.

Depends on what you mean by 'productive'. ^_^ I'm sure there's *something* productive about people sitting around, laughing their asses off over them...

OH! If I'm laughing my ass off, it means I won't have to go on that diet to lose all this extra Christmas weight from an excess of fruitcake and Doritos this year! See, productive.

As a point of explanation, I had to ask on LJ how it could happen. I think the confusion comes from people - myself included, actually, although I will try to remember that people term it this way - assuming that the blanket term "conservative" means socially conservative (i.e. gay/lesbian people/women/minorities are either bad, or not quite as worthy in some vague way as nice fine upstanding married hetero rich white folks) as well as economically conservative.

It's quite possible to be economically conservative (less government intervention in everything) and socially liberal (accepting - not just tolerating - of abovementioned things outside the traditional norm). It's just that some people don't think of this, and personally I don't think such a stance should be called "conservative" across the board... but that's all semantics.

I know people hate me for this, so please feel free to insult me however you like. :)

<Sally Field>You love me! You really love me!</Sally Field>

I bit my tongue because the OP asked me to - But I did bitch in my own journal.

I'm mentioning this because a dear lass who's a friend of mine ([info]dandy_lion) said something in her comment there that gave me an idea and makes me want to make a F_W icon: "Anime - it's like Plato...in a way."

Now I just need to make a good screencap of Dornkirk (I'd say his 'real' name but that's a spoiler) from Escaflowne (Thanks for the notion, [info]unoriginality, sweetie.) and find a painting or somesuch other representation of Plato. ::snerk::

And you are teh popyewlar. XD

And I don't think the OP realized that posting something like that is invariably going to cause a mass of wanking. I believe she's still under the impression that fandom is a happy place where people hold hands and skip through fields of daisies together on a daily basis. O_o But... whatever. XD
