My first wank!
It's a mini-wank, but I have high hopes for explosive growth. I also wanted to get it in before parts started disappearing. ;)

Now, many of you know that XF fandom isn't the hotbed of high-quality wank that it once was. However, one topic is sure to bring the wank every time: The Spooky Awards. Sure enough, the annual winners were announced this week, and before we knew it, the wank, small though it may be (so far), had begun!

It started on a new set of message boards with a series of posts (now its own forum!) from several authors bringing forth allegations of cheating and naming several authors who won awards. The discussion crosses over on another message board, where the wank originator posts a link to the previous message board, and two of the accused authors visit and are rather taken aback by the charges.

Ahhh, awards wank is just sooooo predictable ...

ETA: Now the owner of the first message board has posted to the second message board bitching about the bitching. Hell, I'd better just link to that entire thread, because I'm betting there'll be more. ;)

Ah, awards wank. One reason I'm glad my fandom is too small for awards.

Honestly, to me the funniest partis Erin Blair's sad little sighs about the whole thing. Erin, honey, your fic is just shit. That's why it wasn't nominated.

Erin can't be convinced she's a crappy
writer, any more than her buddies on the
bitchyboard. She also adamently denies
writing and having the GA/DD fic site
which is, ew.

There's always some fanfic writers who
like to write, and those who like to
write well....

There will be no more wank on my part. I'm quite done.

Dear Santa. For next Christmas I want:
No more fanfic awards, ever, in any fandom, not even for fanart, not even open voting, not even a panel voting, no bandwidth-eating graphics advertising the awards, no bandwidth-eating graphics for the winners, the Highly Commended and the éminence grise, no ooh-two-of-my-fics-are-nominated-in-every-category-I'm so surprised-and-grateful awards organiser, no categories at all, no LJ pimping, no list spamming, no awards, no nominees, REALLY NO FANFIC AWARDS AT ALL KTHXBAI.

XF wank that *doesn't* come from Haven...it's a proud day for our once-wanktastic fandom. Or...something. *g*

I love how XF's worst writers are coming out to play. Erin's writing is revolting and repetitive and trite and overblown. Donnilee's idea of good characterisation is Scully hitting a co-worker who came on to Mulder. Come on.

Oh, I get so nostalgic when I see XF wank.

XF fic awards must be the wankiest ever-- I was barely involved in them and I knew of three different instances of cheating, ballot-stuffing and general skullduggery around them. Ridiculous, but man, the laughs!

I wish I had been more involved in X-Files fandom. I didn't really get into it till the end, and by that point I was sort of back tracking. No interest in the season 8 or 9 eps, more in the older fic.

Because I would have enjoyed that bitchery.

Oh Erin, Erin, Erin. When will you learn? You suck mightily. You are famous for sucking mightily. The day the treacle you write earns any award other than "Most Out of Character and Just Plain Pointless" is the day I'll go out back and shoot myself.

And if fanfic awards are just popularity contests, then why the hell do these people care so much? They're not losing anything by not winning a Spooky. I've never won a Spooky, and yet I somehow manage to carry on. (Granted, I've never written any X-Files fanfiction, and, granted, every day that I live without "Winner, X-Files Spooky Award" on my resume is a painful struggle, but I'm not dead yet!)

As an aside, from where do I recognize xochiluvr? I know I've seen the handle before, but I can't remember where/when. It's making me crazy.

Xochiluvr's been around XF fandom for a while as a writer and commenter, etc. Don't know where you might have seen his name specifically, but he is one of the few males in XF fanfic.

Y'all rock! But I'm not sending my Spookys
back. It costs a lot to bribe that many
voters.

I'm jealous of everybody's icons, btw.

*wipes tear*

Oh how the wank makes me nostalgic! I was in the XF fandom from the middle of the 4th season on, however I was never more than just a innocent lurker. I did spend a lot of time at the haven boards. Classically wanky no doubt.

Makes me ashamed to even be in the fandom, as many wanks tend to. Gee, you didn't win any awards. Don't we feel just so sorry for you. Bugger off and join a fandom that gives a hoot.
