If You're Gonna Dish It Out...
The Protector of the Plot Continuum, or PPC, is a forum that critiques bad fanfiction, and sometimes has self-insert stories about hunting down and extermination Mary-Sues to restore the proper plot.

The Godawful Fanficition Board (or GAFF) discusses bad fanfiction.

On GAFF , someone finds a badfic from a PPCer. One of the commentors is also PPCer.

A couple days later, the PPCer announces She's Leaving Forevermore,Because She Was Stabbed In the Back!

Hey, could you stick a href and some a's around those links? They're really big and streching out my friends page and I have to use the bottom scroll and it's like, annoying, and oh the humanity, make it stop!!!!11

Yes! The damn code worked on the web-based update page! Yeah!

Normally I use the Semajic update client for my posts, but for some reason, when I use the href-code, the linked pages refuse to load: I get error messages.

Oh, thank you so much! I was just about to collapse from the strain. I managed to soldier on though and keep side scrolling, it's all a woman can do in such times, I suppose.

It's all a part of my evil plot. Right now I'm stealing hundreds of icons and lying in wait. One day I will spam lj communities everywhere with them, thus wiping the populous into a furor. I will use the confusion that follows as a cover my maneuvers towards my actual goal : the take over and creation of a Fascist-Orwellian-Constitutional-Monarchical terror state in Ohio and strategic parts of southern Michigan!

Don't tell anyone.

Well, to be fair I'm not familiar with the PPC or the work around it. I'm just coming from my experiences in the MiSTing fandom, which really got overpolluted with this sort of thing and a general tendency towards MiSTers buying into an idea that authors of bad fanfic were themselves inherently evil and that MiSTing was a form of "justice." The non-MST permutations might be more gentle, but I'm just used to the entire thing being a big ol' wank target.

There was a Sue-author who tried to write a story where her Mary-Sue killed the assassins that KO'd her character. It was a long time ago, though, and I haven't a clue where to find it. I do recall that her pseudo-PPC fic retained her Sue's (lack-of) grammar and mechanics.
The PPC boarders are supposed to 1) Attack the Sue, not the story's author (unless the author comes to bitch at our board, at which point it's open season), and 2) Give- and receive- constructive criticism. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time something like this happened on the board.
It's the deleting reviews part that gets to me. Um hello? Our whole point is to give and accept criticism?
Just fucking great.

She wrote a story about Hogan's Heroes meeting Jesus in heaven after 9/11. Wherein Jesus told the Heroes part of the reason for 9/11 was so people would dust off their American flags and become "one nation under God" again.

Uh huh. I'm sorry, but I'm stuck there.

If Jesus ever came back and saw what people are doing in his nam, he'd never stop throwing up.

This whole silliness reminds me of my first experience with LOTR online fandom. There was a pretty good Boromir story on ff.net - long, involved, and well-researched. There was one NC-17 chapter, which the author posted with an unfortunate amount of self-indulgent hand-wringing about it being "controversial". She also said some rather insensitive crap about the "dirtiness" of such things (the NC-17 content was slash). I put in a review praising the chapter, but told the author (as politely as I could) that she might want to think twice about her A/N's.

Review was deleted almost immediately, and much shrieking and pissing and ivory-throne disdain about "attacks" and "flaming", etc. When I answered back to the tune of "Oh, so you don't actually want reviews, you just want fawning", same thing. The style was so similar to this nitwit that at first I thought it must be the same person.

Too much!

I know exactly what you mean... i wrote an Aragorn/Legolas fic with PG rating that will climb to R. And there's this reviewer who takled about how "unnatural, disgusting and wrong" it was and demanded that i change the plot. Naturally i showed her the finger (virtually) and she hasn't appeared ever since.

I knew PPC would cause the wank. I didn't know PPC would cause this sort of wank. But hey, this is just another in a string of things that made me wish I'd hit the "delete" key before the fic hit the web.

The idea was to rip everyone's badfic. Even yours. Now I'm sad. I mock, but I'm sad.

As the Nicotine who posted the long comments on this story (if you've saved the story and its reviews, then you've got my comments), I really find Rosie's statements laughable and hypocritical.

As a PPCer, she's made her share of none-to-nice comments to loads of fangirls at FF.net -- and also called them to task when these same fangirls had the audacity to remove her (and others) comments from their review boards.

When that story was posted on FF.net, there were a few posts from folks in the Hogan's Heroes fandom who didn't find the idea of 9-11, the war-mongering attitude that Jesus was given, or His supposed actions fodder for fanfic, and we stated such. Mine were the only negative comments to remain, because I signed in to leave my reviews. One of the negative reviews was from a very devout Christian on the HH list, who has even written HH fic with heavy Christian themes. So, he was definitely someone who could comment on the acceptability of this story -- and he definitely found it wanting. Funny, how his post and the other unsigned negative reviews disappeared -- and long before this story came to light on GAFF.

It's not like Rosie hadn't seen negative comments on this story before. They're definitely not new. And one would think that she'd feel that she'd been backstabbed by HH fans for their negative reviews -- oh, what over a year ago? Yet, that subject's never come up in HH fandom. So, why in the world is it coming up now? Could it be that our self-righteous Rosie now has to leave dissenting opinions exactly where they are? Could it be that she's showing herself to be a colossal hypocrite?

Heh, a beautiful wank. I just love it when the critics get theirs. As long as it's not me being roasted, of course. Because I am perfect, and cannot be critisised at all.

Unfortunately the story had been removed before I got there, so I only have the quotes to go on, but ech, that thing looks to have really deserved it. I mean, did she not notice that it was crap? I could point you to my own crapness with no problems at all, except I'm not going to, 'cause you might mock my crapness, and then I'd have to leave in a big spurty huff.

The best bit is her bitching about it being done "behind her back". What, does she personally talk to the author of every fanfic she criticises?

And even if she does, she should always remember teh golden rule of fandom - if you take yourself too seriously, someone is bound to point and laugh. Get over it.
