PBZ vs PZB, redux
Remember the wank when Poppy Z Brite found pbz_bangers and was asked to stop posting off topic and go away?

Teresa Neilsen Hayden posts about the "folly" of PZB being kicked out of a forum that "not only discusses her works, but is named after her. Why? As far as I can tell, because she’s sane and they aren’t."

Nearly everybody except Yonmei hurries to agree and denounce the pbz_bangers mod:

You know, I skimmed through this "kwobtchan"'s journal, and I'm sorry, the only thing that keeps going through my mind is "What a self-absorbed little bitch!"

"Tina" also suggests that if you don't close and friends-only a community, well, you're asking for off-topic posts.

Why would this stop anyone from making off-topic posts? Seriously, even if you have to approve the users joining it, people will still make off-topic posts. It just happens. Why won't people learn to deal? WHY??!?!

A part of me is wondering how much of this has to do with the fact that it was Poppy Z. Bright who was banned.

I mean if she had been Suzy B. McNormalperson would these folks still be so upset?

From what I've seen, getting published gives you a free pass to be a jerk.

Good on them for making it and all, but... throw a published author into a pack of fanlets and the drool will come up to your knees within five minutes, no matter what they have to say.

The alleged poppy showed up on LJDrama.org after I called her and the mod goobers. She certainly knew a hell of a lot about 'her' writing and um, stuff.

Yeah, now that I read that, it's not much of an argument at all.

(I'm reminded of getting some AOL'er claiming to be William Shatner ticked off then reading years later Shatner went on the net and got pissed that some people didn't believe he was was he)

I read Making Light regularly. I like it.

This thread, though, my reaction was a mixture of "Wasn't this over weeks ago?" and "Well, duh, the mod was in the wrong, but why do you need to go on about it?" This is not how I usually feel about this weblog.

On the funny side, though, members of the group have started showing up.

Now, I'm the last person on Earth who likes defending Poppy Z. Brite, but she definitely WAS in the right in that little conflict. Not because the community was named after her, but because the mod was being a dumbass and Brite's post was completely on topic.

I'm sure this was covered in the previous wank, but if it was I utterly missed it. Why did these asshats mix up the letters of their comm name? PBZ_bangers, rather than PZB_bangers? Or is it some deep, terribly clever play on DragonBallZ(DBZ)? And why, oh why am I thinking about THIS over my morning cup of coffee instead of figuring out how to take over the world on my day off?
