Hi. Long time reader, first time reporter?

Adventure Game Studio is a freeware adventure game authoring tool for those fans of old school adventure games. The site also doubles as an archive of games produced using the engine and a variety of forums to help out developers.

One of the forums is dedicated to announcements of new games. On January 1st, Jodo Kast announces that a demo for a remake of the game Laura Bow in Colonel's Bequest is available on KaZaa. Bryce complains about a lack of access to the game, which Erpy provides while griping about Kast's insistence of the use of KaZaa for downloading the game. Kast still insists on KaZaa, to which Erpy comments that since so many people have had issues downloading the past, clearly KaZaa is not a viable solution.

Kast gets a little pissy:

Erpy: Quit causing problems.

Later, we find out that Bryce STILL has not gotten the beta by e-mails. (The wank, it seems, has been kept to a minimum by AGA, who was "deleting posts that weren't relevant to the game." Nutbunnies.) Bryce asks relatively benignly (though somewhat irritably) for instructions on how to reach the link.

Kast: The demos are on Kazaa. Why insist on whining about what I am - or am not - doing for you? I am not your personal slave.

Wanking ensues. Highlights: Kast and Erpy duking it out, a fake demo created by LucasFans to mock Kast, general confusion as to Kast's attitude and one random anon flame:

hey jodo
get bent, you flaming pile of stinky cow manure
sincerely
fakename

The thread's locked now, but AGA says he'll open it when Kast has an update. Stay tuned.

There needs to be more adventure game icons in the world. Really.

I'm also of the opinion that EVERYTHING is better with homicidal rabbits. They're like ninjas, in a way.

Dude. A remake of Laura Bow.

I'm still stuck at the party in Dagger of Amon Ra.

I love those games.

Must get demo. Must.

The Laura games were the first games I ever played, and I agree-- they're great! You might also like HerInteractive's Nancy Drew games [even though they're meant for younger players]; and Microids' "Post Mortem" [currently on my to-finish list], while rather darker [although I have yet to die or find a body], also lets you play the investigator.

I'll start caring about his project when Jodo stops being an asshat.

In other news, they've got seriously professional flamers over there...programming a small demo game just to add to a flame? Wow.

Also, SQUEE ON YOUR ICON! SQUEE!

The REAL winner is in the Contests forum, where one of the Photoshop Phridays was dedicated to creating "easter eggs" in AGS. Check out one of the entries.

And yes, there must be more Max love in the world. A friend made these for me, so I can't take credit, but I've got one where he's holding the scientist's head at Livejournal. Wai.

lol...nice photoshoppage there. Way to antagonize! *gives the entirity of the forum in wankage her seal of approval for creative wank*

And on the topic of Max, he's the most adorable horribly violent creature I have ever met. Ilove him dearly for it. XD

OMG homemade game engine that I haven't seen yet OMG. Must get must get must get.

Wait. *clears head*

Okay, how freaking large are these files if they resort to distributing them on Kazaa? It's like throwing a paper airplane through a tornado and expecting somebody to catch it on the other side. Besides, if you have a honking huge file you use BitTorrent. I realize that the engine is retro, but the distribution need not be, people.

I love the phrase "Geocities.com is hosting my site." Well ooh-hoo, aren't we posh.

...this does not change my concept of homemade game designers being self-important as a rule. ;)

Actually, my experience is that most of the games don't go over 20 MB. A majority only hit about five, and those are the complete games. Kast's just being a dumbass.

Some of the stuff they make is REALLY good, though. (I'd appreciate the Kings Quest remakes more if I didn't hate, y'know, DYING so much in my adventure games, but oh well.)

Bah, figures. I'd guess with a statement like "Geocities dot com is hosting me" he isn't all as computer-savvy as he tries to put on.

I'll have to check some of those out. I don't think I played any of the classics Back In The Day (I played mostly text games), but it looks fun.

Thanks!

You'd like Monkey's Island. You can't die, even if you try.

You haven't tried hard enough. You haven't seen fun until you've seen Guybrush's "bloat" feature.
