Digimon wanks? NO!
So. Ryosato just finished reading the Korean Digimon comic. Ryosato...was not pleased. No biggie, not many people seem to be.

And then Blackjackrocket comments.

And things...go downhill fast, and I can't finish reading it due to eyepain. Maybe you'll do better.

Blackjack here...

Wow, my first F_W. I was quoted here before, but I wasn't the subject...

And the thing I was refering to in the linked post was that a lot of people blame dubber Jeff Nimoy for making Davis stupider in the dub (remember, Davis is pretty damn stupid in the original). An article was cited several times where Nimoy supposedly said that he didn't like Davis, and made him dumb on purpose.

Later it was revealed that Nimoy had never said such a thing. But people still cite it.

Off topic but the only thing I could agree with is that yes Ryouga is NOT supposed to be a walking pile of Deep angst.

I think he's a better person than he gives himself credit for but he's not a CLAMP character folks.

Dear *GODS*. What the hell *was* all that? I don't know a damned thing about Digimon, but my eyes were swirling just *trying* to look at that. So we wound up with, what - translation, adaptation, voice actor, *and* dub wank all rolled into one nice little California roll of splooge?

Daaaaaamn.

Ahahaha! It just makes it funnier that I recognize one of the wankers as a rabid fan. And wasn't Jeff Nimoy the guy who implied a threat of legal action if people didn't stop saying bad things about him on a message board? *looks at Grace* So either way, Jeff Nimoy = A+ Wanker anyway.

Since I'm probably the rabid fan you refer to, I feel it's my duty to point out that it wasn't just 'bad things'. He was getting death threats.

Try again. What I saw that could be considered 'death threats' aimed at Mr. Nimoy didn't even touch some of the shit I've seen for just writing fanfiction for pairings that people don't like. Admittedly, no one knows what he got in his e/mail other than he himself, but that's neither here nor there. His reaction was still wanktastic on a spectacular scale.

Ah, for the good old days of the Digimon fandom, where the spooge oozed out of everything.

Well yeah, but he's not a fanficcer so he probably wasn't used to it.

What do you mean by "try again", anyway?

Considering that the majority of Digimon fans I've met are the biggest yaoibunny angstifiers that you've ever met, I'm surprised the fandom doesn't have a wank war daily...

I think it's because a lot of the fandom kind of died during the 4th season. They lost interest and moved on. :x However, there are still some of us left who will continue to wank on.

Declaring my bias right upfront - I think Blackjackrocket's a complete and utter doll. ~grin~ Now, that out of the way...

There's nothing so cute as anime fen who when you disagree with them tell you to "read the manga" or "watch in Japanese" or "Oh, if it's your first anime, then...", especially if you're not taking the "all dubs suck" line, and carry on about how if you were knew better you'd agree with their preaching form the pulpit. It never seem sto occur to you that you've done all of the above and you still think they're talking complete and utter bollocks.

Ah, yes, couldn't agree more. Especially predominant in Evangelion cicles and among other "elite" fans, I seem to notice. I can't begin to count how many times I've been told "You just don't get it" or "You haven't watched it seriously" because I dared to say that Evangelion wasn't *gasp* a masterpiece, and that it didn't make sense in parts. Anime fans, good bunch.

Evangelion is fascinating because it is calculatedly "symbolic" but really poorly thought through, so you can interpret away to your heart's content. Being confusing is not the same as being a masterpiece, and certain fen need that battered through their skulls.

I still like it, though. Just not the people who think it has the Greatest Message of the Twentieth Century. (Although, don't wank over your unconscious friends probably is a good message, come to think of it.)

Exactly.

I certainly don't hate it. Considering when it was produced, I think it had some ground-breaking animation in TV anime, and I understand perfectly well why people would love it. But intentionally confusing stories (which I think is what Eva has) tend to make for elitist fans who begin to claim that everyone who doesn't like the title just didn't understand it. It is entirely possible to dislike something you understand, you know? They don't.

Ahaha. My favorite Eva scene.

"I don't understand a second of this, so it must be great!"

I haven't seen Eva yet (which in itself could generate a ferocious wank), but that kind of attitude pisses me off regardless of fandom.

Could we make a law about this?

And could we apply it to fanfics as well?

Basically writing some weird-ass nonsensical story doesn't make you the Greatest Author Ever, it just means you can't tell a story.

No I'm not bitter. Why do you ask?

Ah, video game fans do it too, to an extent. Though it's more along the lines of 'Have you finished the game yet?'. However, I can understand annoyance with fannish bunnies who are condemning a game they haven't even played. >.> And let's not even touch the endless console wars.

Actually I think there's some truth to that. I can't but recall the FFX-2 wanks where we had folks condeming it as the Worst Thing Ever, despite the fact that they've only seen a 2 minute clip of the game.

Same thing with TV series, movies and anime. I have trouble listening to argument from someone who's only seen three eps of a given show.

Yep, they do.

And while we're discussing the pseudointellectual fanboys, I think the Xenogears/Xenosaga fans probably STILL win the award for largest percentage of overanalizing, pedantic elitists in any game fandom ever. And the funniest part is that over 3/4ths of these particular folks think they're l33t because they can recognize simple, not-really-obscure Bible references or basic psychology major terminology. *handstapleforehead*

But I can't really blame them. I too, have been know to contemplate the deeper meaning of possibilities for Billy x Bart pr0n Jessiah Black's incredible HAWTNESS Shion x KOS-MOS yuri MOMO's disturbingly short dress and how cute she and Jr. would be together OMGTWUUWUV4EVA+1! chaos' crotch some of the more important story points in the series. *nods*

The problem most people have is understanding that any of the 'deeper' meaning they might see in something that might be just their point of view, and not 'Teh One Truth!!!!111!1'.

I have to remind myself of that every time I start rewatching Utena. I tend to see it through glasses tinted by the late Joseph Campbell PhD. *sheepish grin*
