First rant...
This started about a fandom, but the wank really isn't about it, so I'm not sure if this is the right place to put it.

It's pretty wanky, though, so...

I posted something about yaoi on Saturday Morning cartoons, given that in the comic this show is based on, Static's sidekick has a crush on him.

The first reply is not really all that wanky, as girl complains about her homophobic family.

The reply to that takes issue with her methods in dealing with them

Oh boy. Open the floodgates.

You don't understand me!

No excuses!

You prick! You insulted me!

And down a little more...

Telling it like it is

I don't expect pity (ACTUAL QUOTE)

And it's *STILL GOING ON*, so watch it for more wank, wank, wank!

Ah, one of those "The whole world is against me and everyone hates me!" angstbunnies. :P Is it insensitive of me to think that a fandom community is NOT the place to go into a rant about how your life is so horrible, even in comments? :P I mean, the casual "Well, the next chapter won't be out awhile since school is eating so much time", or a side comment "My mom thought Haruka was a man/Nuriko was a woman" is one thing, but a bigass discussion on how bad one's life is is best kept to email.

Yeah... the other one was wanking along pretty good, too, with justifying homophobia (though I gotta admit, they at least made a slightly better argument than the usual "It just isn't natural!" stuff people use when trying to tell others to be tolerant of intolerance), but god, the whole thing of "I have a right to scream at and hate my little brother because my parents love him soooooo much more and me not at all but that's okay I hate them and always have I don't want pity but MY ANGST MAKES ME RIGHT!"

[Is it insensitive of me to think that a fandom community is NOT the place to go into a rant about how your life is so horrible, even in comments?]

Oh God no. One reason why I eventually abandoned the Shoujoai.com forums was because I was so sick and tired of people acting like it was their therapists office.

[I'll add that I loved the snark in the comments. Too often when the angstbunnies show they usually get a wave of 'oh we LOVE you' replies.]

Finding myself siding with the poor girl who can't defend herself properly, because it annoys me when jerks people get all uppity about high school students acting like high school students. Like, goodness gracious, a tenth-grader yelling at her little brother and feeling persecuted? Stop the presses!

Teenagers have to act like, to some degree. It's all mixed up with biology and risk-taking impulses (which got us where we are today as a species) and the impulse to hate your family and leave home and find a new group of monkeys to go hang with, which in turn takes place to prevent people from accidentally mating with their half siblings (which they otherwise wouldn't know better than to do because they've been reading V. C. Andrews and Harry Potter fanfiction.)

Isn't it beautiful how evolution just works all this stuff out?

I have to disagree here. While being a teenager does give one some slack about acting stupid, I have problems with people who use the fandom to deal with their personal issues.

NEWSFLASH:

Fandoms are NOT the place to get free therapy. Believe it or not the other members don't give a shit about your personal life.

Wanna bitch, do it in your personal LJ. At least there you have a better chance of garnering sympathy.

Woe. Woe. And once again, woe. *eyeroll*

Quite a circle jerk there, but given that my ten year old brother just incited elementral rage such that I had to leave the room and go take a shower, I'm refraining from commenting further.

Christ in a sidecar with goggles and a helmet! Why the fuck are people so sensitive on the internet? Man, the way some folks fly into "You're attacking me, you monster!" at the slightest provocation is really pathetic (albeit very amusing). A simple question is taken as hatred, or the sort of gentle remonstrance we see in that exchange is assumed to be derision and condescension. What the fuck gives? Whatever happened to assuming the better of people, rather than the worst?

Now, if someone had shown up and said, "Christ, get a life, you hypocrite", I could see being annoyed. But this? Sheesh. Reminds me of those teenie fic writers who beg for reviews and then burst into tears if a reviewer tries to tell them that spelling or grammar or such actually count for something. *snort*

Christ in a sidecar with goggles and a helmet!

Bwahah!

Seriously, yo. It seemed like a case of a teenie goth getting very defensive about someone pointing out that, hey - it's not polite to scream at your little brother, even if he *is* saying stupid shit. And one wonders if she's so abused and traumatize and OMG sad, why her evil, evil parents haven't smacked her around for it taught her that yet.

Wow.

Honestly, I see the more adult person's point. No one is ever convinced to change sides by someone screaming at how stupid they are. If you doubt this, just look at any shipping battle, in any fandom, anywhere. *"No, I will not ship Xel/Lina just because you tell me Xel/Fil is evil thankyewverymuch!"* And it's not just because of all that 'fight hate with love' crap, either - it's common sense! Who wants to be told how stupid and wrong they are for saying *one* word?

Besides, that reasoning has been around as far back as Machiavelli - if you can't destroy your enemies utterly, then convince them to be your friends. And it's still around because it *works*. *besides, that way you don't have guys standing around offering your victims revenge against you if they're able to walk away*Do you want revenge? *flashes icon*

But, uh, yeah... I liked the part where the teenie goth admitted she'd forgotten her meds. For real, sister - if your parents were so godsawful terrible they probably wouldn't have paid for your counseling or meds in the first place, and would have beat your ass down for screaming at their precious baby boy. I'm not saying there's no way her parents could be nasty people but... she throws the word 'abuse' around an *awful* lot, don'tcha think?

And I didn't particularly think the person telling her not to yell at her brother was being particularly wanky, either - they could've gone about it with a bit more eloquence - but Gods it was funny to see the thin-skinned little teenie fly into a defensive rage when someone called her on being nasty to her brother!

She's not nasty, though. Yelling and swearing at an eleven year old isn't nasty. She's OPPRESSED and she HATES him anbd he's JUST LIKE HER DADDY!!!! (Who, she admits, she's lying to so that he'll pay for her to go to college, even though she hates him and he's, like, abusive and stuff. Classy.)

Azalais Law of Psychiatric Disimpairment in action:

Don't expect sympathy when you admit you're behaving badly because you're supposed to be medicated!

That said, I thought the love bomber was annoying as all hell too, and I've taken all my pills today. People who believe you can "love" other people out of homophobia have never had to clean up their roommates after a gay-bashing. Of course, neither has little goth chick, but I have, and I was hard pressed not to add to the splooge.

I can't stand those angsty gothsd who yell "MY LIFE IS SO HORRIBLE SO I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO CURSE AND INSULT MY TERRIBLE MEAN FAMILY AND EVERYONE ELSE!!!111" and then expect us to be sympathetic. No, bitch, no. This is a fandom place, not a psychiatrist's office. And if you want to rant about it, 1) Be less self-centered and rude, and 2) Rant in your own journal.

This is why I'm glad I'm no longer a teen.

but if you want to point out something that's wrong with the way someone's doing something, could you do please do it in a friendly way?

Like the way she yelled at her brother that he was a little bastard... in a friendly way.

and:

Tired of seeing my brother start to yell at my mom, just like my dad does.

While *she* would never yell at *anyone*, of course. ^_^;

The response of most little kids to *any* sexuality, including het, is "eeew." Unless you're our [info]kannaophelia's adorable little brothers, who write her Gabrielle/Xena, Utena/Anthy and ChibiUsa/Hotaru comics and very seriously explained to me over the phone about Haruka and Michiru. *wants to adopt them*

And am I the only one that thinks it's revolting to admit you hate your father - and some poor little kid - but you're sucking it up because you *want to get money out of them*?

Otoh, this is pretty funny too:

Don't fight hate with hate. Use love to get love. See what I mean?

Awww, I actually saw this yesterday while catching up on yaoi (since I can't stand having it friended but it occassionally yields good eyecandy.) But I couldn't stand to read the shit in order to wank it. And now I've been beat out. Sad, sad.

Of course, if you reported everything wanky on that community, you'd never have time for anything else.

What I find odd is that she expects to be praised for yelling at her 11 year old brother. You could have what you consider the best reason in the world, but strangers will report you for ABUSE! ABUSE!
