"This cel is actual fanfiction brought to life!"
Newbie to fandom_wank here. This is my first post. Yay!

Anyway, my friend Tailfluff was surfing eBay and she came across this little gem.

This is a fanfiction cel in her words "featuring a Mary-sue character I created and everyones favorite hanyou, Inuyasha!"

Oh and by the way- "Hopefully, I will get more cels done including her shortly, but for now, heres a proto-type! =) "

So in case you lose out on this auction, don't worry... she'll be putting up more later!

...EBay auctions just keep sinking lower and lower.

This girl can certainly draw.

All the more pity though.

I know, that's part of what I found so sad about it. She actuallly can draw. *sigh*

Yes, she can. Still - $25 for a Mary Sue drawing? O_o

Someone WILL pay her $25 if she draws canon characters ... like Ina-yasha and Kagome; she does have the skills for it.

I think what's sad about this, and some of the other Mary-sue art I've seen for the IY fandom is that the artists are *really* good, to the point if they actually drew the real characters, it could pass for official art.

*shakes head*

Still can't believe I found this on ebay. Oy vey...

She is pretty good *although I think she could still use some work* and it matches the style that Inu Yasha was drawn in pretty well.

But... the starting bid is $25? Maybe she's new to this? Maybe she'll learn when no one buys it?

I guess... but there's lots of doujinshi on ebay, and I've never heard of any legal action taken about that. Has there been?

Depends who has brought it over. Funmation goes anal on anything that makes any money off of DBZ. I've heard of Rama stuff getting pulled down, along with Salior moon stuff. Some companies don't care, others don't want anyone but them to make a dime off the stuff.

It's common, though. Not really online, which I think was her first mistake (her second was putting the price so damn high), but at anime conventions, there's generally an art show followed by an auction.

For twenty-five dollars that cell should be hentai detailed enough for me to see each pube drawn seperately feel like the character is breathing heavily...from Miroku's efforts.

As others have said,t hea rt is good, if derivative.

As for the Mary-Sue aspect... while I don't have much taste for such characters myself, I tend not to be one of the gibbering monkeys myself who either falls into a shocked silence or a red-eyed rage at the mere sight or mention of a Mary-Sue, so I'm not going to get particularly upset over this. At least until I see an example of the person's writing and find out just how lameass she is.

I don't get enraged over Mary-Sues either. For the most part I just wonder what writers are on.
From the implication I got--- this girl hasn't even posted her fanfiction. In any case--- the character design incorperates almost all aspects of a typical "InuYasha" Mary-sue. They're usually some kind of youkai (demon) or Hanyou (half demon) sporting some unusual traits that no youkai in the series has. This one appears to be a bird/dog/Ropponmatsu from "Excel Saga" hybrid youkai or Hanyou with clothing stolen from Ranma-chan.

For me, it's not the fact the character is (or is not) a Mary Sue. It's the fact that this person apparently thinks someone will care about a random original fan character from Inu-Yasha, without even a link to a fic. Even if the character is a wonderful one that integrates seemlessly into the story, unless you've read the fic, no one will care. Since no one (even Inuyasha fans) seems to know who this person is, it seems silly.

That's not really true. I've seen lots of good drawings of characters from stories I knew nothing about that I'd pay fifteen bucks for if I had any money. Never one from a fanfiction, but again, if it's good, I might consider it. I wouldn't pay 25, but the basic principal doesn't seem that far off to me, and it's not like 25 bucks is a ridiculous sum.

It's pretty... but what amuses me is that she's worried about people drawing Mary-Sue without her permission. Because she asked for permission to draw and make money out of Inu-Yasha - right?

Oh, but don't you know? The canon characters are fine to use, because they, like, belong to everybody and stuff, but the Mary Sue character will someday make her rich and famous, so she wants to reserve all rights!

...No, doesn't look any better typed out like that.

The art is pretty good, but my initial impression was that she just copied it from a scene of Inuyasha and changed bits and pieces (like the MS's face) around to make it look "original". I dunno, there's something about it that makes me feel that way. Like I've seeen the positions of the characters before. But I could be wrong. *shrug*

[info]cowgirled

I don't think there's a scene in "InuYasha" that duplicates that, but it would be easy to combine several poses to get the picture. Mary-sue's have a tendancy to copy positions.. so I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, I swear she's wearing Ranma-chan's clothes.

When you're buying a cell, isn't half of what you're buying the experience of buying from an artist that made the series?

I don't think buying from some anonymous girl that writes crappy Mary Sue fanfiction has quite the same thrill.

Y'know, if she drew some NC-17 Miroku/Kagome or Miroku/Kagome/Shippou, I know a couple of ladies who'd buy it. They're all gaga over M/K or M/K/S.

Sandra can draw her own M/K. And it would be prettier.

This? Eh. Now, if someone were SUING her over drawing their silly Mary-Sue character on a cel and selling it, THAT would be priceless. I'd seriously think about possibly considering to pay money to see that.

Scary. O.o

Of course there's nothing that would sell better than good old InuYasha/Kagome smut. ^^
